i thought best place for a EGT (other then pre turbo for the most accurate reading and up to 100 deg C higher then post turbo)) was where your dump pipe leaves the turbo half way around the bend or at least as soon as the bend goes vertical!! 700deg C is melting point for most diesels with a EGT in this position, or up a long slugger hill with your foot flat try not to exceed 600 deg C for more then a few seconds to be safe?

that might be on a cold morning but what about on a 40 degrees + day...... everyone has a different situation what you run down in melbourne may be too much in darwin....... hence with the temperature difference
i have a egt plug about 2.5 inches from the back of the turbo
well actually that was in 34 degrees 2 weeks ago. at around 4 pm for all use playing at home!

yeah but do you understand the point i was tryin to get across? everyones situation is different........ like a wise man once told me (cheers dumbdunce ) intercooler set up shood be set up for different climates too for example top mounts in southern states work alot more effiently then the do up here in Nth Qld...... hence why water to air intercoolers work more effient up here then air to air on diesels
