A diesel WILL NOT create a knock of some kind just from excessive idling. And will not damage rocker gear.As long as the oil pressure is good. Like many others have said it will only glaze the bores. Make the bores like a mirror finish causing the rings not to seal thus burning oil, white smoke on start up and blowing heaps of blue/white smoke when loaded again. Loading the engine can fix the problem if caught early. Ive gone to a mine site once, where someone accidently left a 12v92 detroit idling for 12hours, the only thing i could do with out pulling it out was to load it up as much as we could, It blew all sorts of colours of smoke for a long time but eventuly cleared up and run fine after that.
Additive in the fuel does nothing
Can't see how truckies leave the engine running while they sleep if the engine is electronic as most are these days because most engines these days have built in idle limiters, most set to 5-10mins that can only be changed using a laptop with the correct soft wear

yes one thing to remember never buy a ex speed camera vehicle the cops leave them at idle all the time so they can run the aircon i know a bloke that got one and only lasted 90 000km and thats bad for a diesel
