someone came up with a SPOA first, and a 5 link firSt.
beleive it or not, someone actually even came up with a god forbid TUBE BUGGY first,
and then you have the first V* into a patrol, and then the firt bodylift, the first 6" lift, first castor plate, the first DROP BOX, the first caster bushes.

you get my picture
GET OVER IT.

if someone can make it, and they have the time, they will make it.

I can bet that someone will market the same thing as the xlink in the near future under a different name also.

if you can afford the full patent on the concept, and you can afford the legal backbone to support that patent in ALL countries around the world, then good on you aswell, because untill you actually get the patent, and the dosh ( not patent pending) then i am sure there will be alot of these things poping up here and there.

also, to those that think its expensive, compare them to cast radius arms.

while we are on d subject someone give me a set of 3deg, 4deg 5deg 6deg radius arms and i will copy and sell them for half the price :)

Jes
I hear you

Patent principal :!: the best one to have $20 000 or so

Xlink works well with the cast radius arms too

we are over it now!!!

Actually the idea has been around and in practice for a long time. There is a company in the US doing a very similar product. Glen just came up with "his" design to suit Australian delivered vehicles.

Im in no way saying Glen coppied someone else just that its not a new idea. Glen quite possibly came up with his design himself without ever seeing anyone elses.

ok.. well..

my front shaft..

i wil be loking into cv shaft.. ( i think thats my best option)
or maybe offset unis.. (jst need to know more about it)

as for the x link....

we all know dobbin designe/sell it.. but FFS.. i built a copy.. it works.. so lets stop whinging bout it..

if ya like one either build or buy one!!! i dare sy most will buy as they are reasobly priced for the amount of flex u get..

better than a 5 link i reckon!

So now can someone fil me in on wat offset unis are!

Here is where to get offset uni joints- http://www.4xshaft.com they are called super flex uni's. But they do not make one to suit a Lancruiser. Closest you can get that can be modded to fit a cruiser is the 1310 joint. You then need to modify your flanges to accept an early square flange range rover tailshaft. These run 1310 uni joints and are what most buggies are running. The centre hole on the toyota flange needs to be machined out slightly and then re-drilled to suit. You can get a lot more operating anle out of single uni joints than you will ever get out of any common CV joint or DC joint.

Toyota Hilux uni and yolk at the slip joint end has more operating angle than any other off the shelf yolk and uni but they are a little on the weak side in some aplications. I wouldn't run one in the rear of an 80 but in the front they may be ok. There are a few buggies running these in the front with no problems and a lot of weight in the tyres.

kewl thanks ruff..

i don have a std front shaft.. im gunna flex it up and see weather it wil cope with it.. but failing that it looks like ill be lookin for sumthing else...

just another challange.! :)

My buggy ran 18" shocks in the rear with a tail shaft length of around 650-700mm and one 1310 superflex uni and one stock 1310 uni with no binding issues. It uses the full length of the 18" shocks with no binding even with both shocks at full droop. Static ride height had about 4" of up travel. Front ran 16" shocks on a tail shaft around 500mm with 2 stock hilux uni joints and 3" uptravel. With no binding issues.

well, i never knew this. i wonder if the US company is shitty to with people "copying" the design?

ray, have you thought about checking out the driveshaft place just off the broker hwy, think it is caller spicer or something. opposite montrose park. they have some really cool stuff there, might be able to help

Ive actually looked again for the thread that was on Pirate about it and can not find it. It was going back even before Outerlimits was around. It may not have even been a company it may have been a one off. But i know i had seen this set up done before i ever saw the Xlink. And from memory it was on a Bronco or an F Truck.

Glen is no internet junky and i doubt he can even check his own emails :D So i dont doubt that the Xlink is totaly Glens design.

I posted this in the origional x-link thread, and got whinged at about it. From memory the one i saw was on the front end of a f-truck too. I never bagged glens design, as its a great option, i just stated that it wasnt the first of its kind.

Good on ya Ray, stick to your guns
Built not bought,
When you look at a modded 4b running down the street and its got all the latest and greatest snake lift or any big brand mods you just think rich boy, bolt on crap.
When a vehicle is modded by the owner, he truly realises what is involved, the concept and how the vehicle will re-act. At the end of the day your the one driving it, not any other bitchy whiny goon on here who thinks there products are kick arse.
My 2c worth,
Simon.

What you need is truck sized UJs, or Tractor sized UJs. Get yourself to the truck wreckers and buy a decent sized set of UJs you can cut down/mod to fit. Get at least 4 inch spread. Same for tractor/ag UJs = BareCo has them (www.bareco.com.au) and the sliding tube to suit - good for 150HP and wide angle too - Southern Machinery at Kingston are agents. it's just a cut and shut job to make them up.

I actually think Cranky's link is a big positive for the X Link.

I personally have never seen an x link but on this forum i ahve seen what Cranky's can do!! he wont build it for me so my only option is Dobbin eng!!!! I think they are getting a lot of excellent publicity worth a lot more than the $800 they didnt get from his sale!!

Cheers

Hey ruff I'v been looking at the offset uni wondering if the uni being offset would cause the slip joint to hunt in and out or cause some other unbalance, I can't get my head around it. or does it work just the same as a normal uni?

Chad

EDIT:Answered I read the full thread on it, there are a few issues with vibration. I'v got my head around it now ;)
