I think i have one of the 1.67 transfercases, i have a 86-87 defender that had a 2.25d or 2.5d and LT77, is there anyway to find out what ratio the transfercase is? the whole car is sitting around in peices, planning on going TDI/R380 and cutting down the rear overhang to make a short 110.ISUZUROVER wrote:Low range is the same in all. High range varied with vehicle. 1.41:1 in Tdi defenders, anywhere from 1.003:1 to 1.22:1 in the rest. (there was also a 1.67:1 but this was in the 2.5P/D 110/90s which didn't make it to OZ).mud4b wrote:so there are different ratios in lt230 cases depending on vehicle?
Turn input shaft, count turns of output shafts.qserv wrote: I think i have one of the 1.67 transfercases, i have a 86-87 defender that had a 2.25d or 2.5d and LT77, is there anyway to find out what ratio the transfercase is? the whole car is sitting around in peices, planning on going TDI/R380 and cutting down the rear overhang to make a short 110.
Either that, or look on the rear face, they were fitted with a tag showing the ratio when made. Or take the lower cover plate off and count teeth.KiwiBacon wrote:Turn input shaft, count turns of output shafts.qserv wrote: I think i have one of the 1.67 transfercases, i have a 86-87 defender that had a 2.25d or 2.5d and LT77, is there anyway to find out what ratio the transfercase is? the whole car is sitting around in peices, planning on going TDI/R380 and cutting down the rear overhang to make a short 110.
Engaging the difflock makes counting easier as both outputs turn at the same speed.
