lex v8 in hilux conversion
Moderators: toaddog, Elmo, DUDELUX
who makes the adaptor for this? or is it a dream not reality.... i want auto but if surf or supra auto is really gonna be too weak (remember guts they said the same about g52 behind a uz) then ill have to go manual or 700Guts wrote:Turbo 400 or 700
Or
the 80 series auto would be my pick if I was to do it again.
turbos are nice but i'd rather be blown
80 auto will bolt straight up to 1uz I think. Bought one to go behind ls 1, gave up, now I can't sell the damn thing. The 80 box is a lot meatier than any hilux box, damn heavy.
You will need to spend $4 grand on a t700 if you want it stronger, still won't come close to 80 auto.
T400, or the 4 spd 4l80e if you can afford it, are tuffer than t700.

Or confirmation of this (not I think).slosh wrote:80 auto will bolt straight up to 1uz I think.

Try to keep at least one wheel on the ground at all times !!!!!! (unless you want to do a jump....... thats different)
not much has been done to the lux as we have had work commitments
have swapped boxes now (had to change output shaft and need new thermos as the ones we bought were nackered but got a refund
the output shaft swap took 2 hours start to finish with minimal tools (10,12,14 mm sockets and 3 flat screw drivers and circlip pliers)
will post more when time allows
the surf box will work but it is easier to use the lex box because all the electronics are different
and the pwr steer pump is not up to the task of the gq box but i have some ideas on how to fix that prob
otherwise it goes hard
as for the turbo 400 we have one behind a rodec(spell) 350 chev punchin bout 400hp and is holdin up well

Please let me know if you get the gearbox shifting correctly. I did this conversion aprroxamatly 3 years ago, I couldn't get auto to shift properly automaticaly. tried wiring VSS and TPS, has Sideshow spend hours on it but still with no luck. Good luck to you and i hope you get it sorted. Please let me know how it goes.

Personally i think that the mechanic is right because unless the 308 is a real strong one whats the point in wasting power with a t400 when a tricked up trimatic is heaps smaller, weighs heaps less and is an allround better fit.jessie928 wrote:i would be looking for a new Mechanic ASAP!!!!crack wrote:i thought the t400 wouldnt be suited to v8 very well. thats wat mechanic said to us when we were thinking of putting one in a 308 torrie. he rekons they to heavy/sklow box for a v8?

you think he's right saying the 400 is no good for a v8? so it would be better in a 4cyl or a v12?tuf045 wrote:Personally i think that the mechanic is right because unless the 308 is a real strong one whats the point in wasting power with a t400 when a tricked up trimatic is heaps smaller, weighs heaps less and is an allround better fit.jessie928 wrote:i would be looking for a new Mechanic ASAP!!!!crack wrote:i thought the t400 wouldnt be suited to v8 very well. thats wat mechanic said to us when we were thinking of putting one in a 308 torrie. he rekons they to heavy/sklow box for a v8?
