My question is where to you guys that have a weber connect the charcoal canister to? The isnt any points on the carby itself and any that were on the manifold have been filled.
I looked in the sierra FSM and one point off the charcoal canister it supposed to go to the carby and one to the intake. The only "spare" point I have on the intake manifold is the vacuum for the brake booster (1ltr Non-Assisted booster) Would this connection be suitable (with a restrictor) for the intake connection.
Hi Jaffa,
did you get your carb from a store on ebay or was it a private seller ? I'd like to buy a 32/36 weber for my Zook but I don't really know who to buy it from.
Thanks,

Jaffa wrote:G'day Lance - Im guessing sarge just put the water neck on that way when he sent it to you so it was a little smaller in the box, I just pulled it off (It wasn't siliconed on) and turned it round the other way.
For any one else who's putting a weber on and doesn't want to run a air filter on top of the carby, K and N make a "mini plenum" that will suit a 32/36
http://knfilters.com/search/product.aspx?Prod=85-8921 It probably isn't the best for air flow into the carb, but so long as it isn't too expensive Im going to give it a try.
I dont think the slight disruption of air flow will bother our zuk engines that much. Yea mite be the most minute loss but hey these engines arnt exactly high performance. I reckon it will do the job perfectly, id rather have a good filter system and wear the slightest loss in performance.

Ive done a bit more searching on the adapter and found this
Its $100USD, much better than $450AUD for the other one and looks like it will flow better anyway
Im waiting to hear about shipping. You can buy it here
http://www.jameng.com/products/index.phtml?section=14
EDIT: They also have the K and N version that I put up on the other page for $85USD

Big price difference! I cant believe it even says snorkel kit on the box but apparently nothing like that exists when I was looking for one>

you guys would kill to have the adaptor that i have. allows air to come directly down onto the carby. Found it at a swap meet and have never seen one anywhere on the
net.

I think this is the same one as what you have B4T, Id go for that one but Im not even sure I have enough bonnet clearance with the other adapter, I still have a 1ltr bonnet ATM.

thats the one. mine is an older version but yeh its good. with a 2in BL i use a bit of intake hose from an EA falcon (i think) and it will conect directly onto the factory airbox.

anyone have trouble with your carby turned around driving on the road as when i tryed. it kept stalling at lights or on heavy braking is there a fix
as im getting very p..s of and thinking of going back to std till i get my other carbs fixed up.

If it is flooding under hard braking etc your float level is too high. I remeber ypu talked about swapping floats from brass to plastic? If you did go back to stock and set it to factory top height with 2mm drop. It should run better the float level also affects the way fuel is mixed in the emullsion tubes. From these specs its a balancing act between up and down hill driving offroad. You need to keep enough fuel in the bowl so up hill the jets are still in the fuel but not to much as down hill it flows forwards and fills the hole were the e tubes are and run out the aux jets. As long as you have sealed the bowl and used a breather tube the air jets shouldnt flood to much and it will still run.
What a ramble..

Finally got around to organising the adapter from the states, fitted it all up and plumbed it up to the air cleaner and snorkel. I used a 1ltr air cleaner cut the outlet off and used a zincalume gutter thingy from bunnings to make a new outlet to go to the adapter.

looks like a very neat and tidy setup.
Did you find out what the jet sizes were b4 ya fitted it?

i have the same set up as jaffa and i find when i set it all up under load i can not rev past 4000rpm. take all the air ducting of and its fine. I have gone to the standard air cleaner on top of the webber and it runs fine also.

I thought you were still running nothing, how much dust you reckon you swallowed so far

B4T: No I didn't look, I cant remember if I mentioned it already but apparently Sarge set it up for a 1.6, so it should be good, it starts, idles and free revs fine but I havn't actually driven it on the road yet (its a bit too loud without an exhaust)
Zook7177: Damn I wish I had of know that a couple of weeks ago, Oh well I'll see how it goes and report back. Out of interest is your weber modded?

Mowie:
NO bought a standard air cleaner
i think a lot of dust it saves on fuel. The cylinder with dust and not as much fuel can get in.
Jaffa: No its standard bought new from the states, have not touched a thing on it

hey zook7177. Mine used to do the same thing. you need to adjust ya jets to overcome this.
Posted: Sun Oct 21, 2007 9:35 pm
by zook7177
smaller jets or just the adjustment. i was going to take it to a carby guy and just say FIX IT and hope he does

Just one other question Zook7177. What direction did you have the adapter pointing? What I mean is what direction was the air coming into the carby thought the top "hat" of the air cleaner adapter, ie. from the front of the motor (evenly to each barrel of the carby) or from the side (so the primary or secondary (depending on which way the carby is mounted) barrel would get air first)
I only ask because B4T mentioned that if the air isn't distributed evenly between each barrel it would run like crap.
Brendan
P.S. Sorry about all the ((()))'s, I tired and pissed so I hope it all makes sense

@ Jaffa, when he is running a filter the air comes from the side, thats right isn't it Rob....

in the pic you need to turn the carby around so float bowl is at the firewall so it doesnt flood up hills.

That looks like a good set up Jaffa be interesting to see how it performs. When I ran the 9" chrome shit on top I thought it went well but when I changed to the ramflo there was a definate improvement so I just stay away from deep water.

Hope you oil the ramflo and clean it often. They are definatly not the best offroad filter.

Sarge that recommended the jets I run also recommended the ramflo and said NOT to oil it. Ive been meaning to ask him about this. Lynx say it can be ran either way. The zuks in the states that run webers run them dry and I havnt seen any reports of problems. I have the oil here to do it but I dont think it would be that bad?? Not sure though but a definate performance increase over 9" paper filter.

Finally got the car on the road, got the exhaust fitted today, it goes great happily revs to 6500rpm (didn't try any higher) heaps of torque from about 1700 - 5000rpm.
Compared to my missus car (Vitara with same motor but standard carb) it is quite a bit quicker and compared to the 1ltr that was in it, it feels like a drag car. Havn't tried it on any angles yet but Ive got 2 weeks off some Im sure I'll take it for a proper drive soon.
Brendan
EDIT: One thing that surprised me was the induction noise, never owned a car with an induction sound this cool
...... well maybe the turbo comodore.

Great to hear mate. You should here it with the ramflo! When I ran the weber on the 1300 I thought the noise was a shagged motor as when I went to 1600 with stock carb it was so quiet then when I put the weber on look out
although on long uphills the induction roar gets old very quickly but around town the looks you get
P.S cant wait till you stip down the weber Im dying to see how the fuel it diverted from the aux jets. Sarge has hinted there is more to it than sealing the bowl and adding a breather tube.
Atm I have the float set so it just about stalls on road when I brake hard but It has a SLIGHT stutter on extreme uphills going slow.

Mmmmmmm maybe its just my ramflo then, but after a run, looking down the throats there is signs of dust/other fine junk that has gotten past the filter. Not good. Plus the fact that i wash mine out every couple of weeks. Yea there may be a slight increase in power from the paper filter (definatly an increase in noise) but in my case it lets through the fine dust. To try and stop this i give it a light oiling. Will be looking for a nice small paper filter soon
