Need some help, I have the original wheels and tyres form my SR5 Hilux (15,000k's) can anybody tell me how much I could sell them for roughly!

also is anybody watching this thread keen on them!

Hi Dan,

if you were in Melbourne, I'd be interested, as I want to start building up an offroad trailer soon, with Hilux wheels...

FWIW, i've seen them going on ebay for $300-$500 for a set of 5...

I have heard from several people that due to the new Diesel hilux motor being electronic and computer controlled, that fitting a snorkel actually decreases fuel economy due to the ram factor. As the air is forced into the intake (due to the snorkel intake facing forwards) it changes the pressure in there which is sensed and tricks the computer into adding more fuel.
I noticed my economy go down slightly when I fitted my snorkel.
Apparently changing the top around, facing it backwards makes it good again, unfortunately you can't do that with an airtec snorkel as they are moulded to the windscreen shape.

Has anyone else had this problem? (done accurate fuel figues over a long period of time to notice the change, like I have), and
Does anyone have a safari snorkel (that has a reversable intake on top) that is willing to do a comparison and prove it?

i used to think the same on my old GU ZD30

i'll turn mine around and see what happens, i have a dtronic and am already getting better consumption from that

Well the ARB canopy is now on but still waiting on the plastic strips to come in for the bull bar :(

G' day all, about your question Alchemist, i have a mate with the same sort of canopy Arb and is having the same problem with sealing it in the corners between the tailgate and the canopy, we were thinking that it was due to his truck having a tub liner? who knows arb s stuff is great gear but just maybe they over looked this area? i thought that they were meant to be dust proof! be good to hear your ideas on the subject cheers, go the lux!

Just a question for anyone that has done their own wiring for their mods. Where is a nice easy spot to take a switching wire from to run a relay for spotties and a compressor? Also has anyone used one of the ARB switches and wired up the illumination part of it as well? If so where did you run that wire from?

Easist place in most cars to tap into a dash illumination wire is normally the cig lighter light (I dont have a new lux though but I spoze it applies)

John, Thanks, please let me know if it improved economy by turning the snorkel intake around backwards. I might stick a stocking or something over mine to restrict the air being rammed into it.

RE: Spotlight switching wire for high beam, take it directly from your headlight wiring harness on the back of the headlight, saves mucking around under the dash. Remember the Hilux uses negative switching for the lights, but the ARB instructions cater for that ( I have the IPF 900XS and wired up the illumination part) its a gimmick I guess but it works.

Has anybody fitted an airtank to their hilux yet? If so, what size tank have you used and where have you fitted it? I'm trying to work out at the moment where i can fit a decent size tank but i'm struggling to find a good position for it...

Is that a problem with all the makes of canopy? I see a hell of a lot getting around Melbourne at the moment, but more and more with hard tonneaus... I like the idea of the slam shut on the Carryboy/Alpha, but the ARB with the two latches looks like long term security would be better...

Have seen a few Alpha's, heaps of Carryboy and ARB... almost no TJM at all in any of the aftermarket kit for the current model Hilux...

Winch question to XRDave - you mentioned way back that you have a Milemarker winch... which one? the hydraulic, or the electric?

It's an electric winch.

KP4x4: The canopy is fairly well sealed it's just my tail gate that isn't sealed but I think I might have come up with an idea, will give it a shot over next weekend or so.

Recent additions to my Lux are headlight and taillight covers, bling bling!





They're $75 a pair and the rear ones actually protect the tail light quite a bit.... the front is more for show and don't affect the light output.

Oh.... and I almost got stuck, managed digging myself out and driving down to the ocean where it was hard surface then drove back out again *very lucky*

Haha I knew I'd cop it when I got those things but heck, I wanted it to look different... geez the amount of crap I got about them from our pemberton trip this weekend was funny

I'm still 100% keen on them myself but I am living with the different look it gives the vehicle.

definitely bling bling! I was looking at the Altezza styled ones on ebay, for around $200 a pair, but don't think I'll be assed by the time I get the Hilux next year... Would rather put the money towards a DTronic (If they ever become available), or a DPChip, and a bigger exhaust...
