Cheers - will keep it in mind then - considering the original price from elsewhere was @$500 as there's under 10 bends in it. - I only want steel - not stainless (thats <$240 in bends)
just rember that you get what u pay 4 there is 223 exhaust shops in melbourne and only about 10 good ones so be carefull price is not everything quality comes into it someware
I wont mention who quoted me the price(their price includes the bends and the tube) - They are one of the better shops in Bayswater bud.

can u get/make an turbo manifold for a BA 6cyl?
what sort of $$ for a custom manifold?

Hey Ross,

I lost track of the custom snorkel thread that was happening. Did you ever end up making one for a 90's era Hilux that has it on the drivers side gaurd? (I know the 2.7 petrol at least has it on this side)

I have a 1994 4Runner which like most Lux's/4Runners originally has the intake on the passeneger side. I need a snorkel for the drivers side though as I now have a 1UZFE engine in it which breaths from the drivers side front corner.

get a manifold from the wreckers of a xr6 turbo and computer ams whireing loom this will make it a bolt on job

Great thread, thanks for making your expertise available to all here. It's greatly appreciated.

I had a 2in exhaust and extractors done on a Zook a few years back, then when I added a long-ranger tank to it, I had to have a fair portion of the exhaust redone to route it around the tank.

* Is this likely to be the same if I do a 4.2 diesel GQ Patrol or is the tank in a different spot, or can I get them to take a future tank into consideration and route it such that it won't affect a tank that's installed later.
* What size is sensible for said engine with an aftermarket turbo added (Luxon's) and that has an automatic transmission.
* What should I expect to pay for the job including extractors.
* Do you know someone in Canberra you can recommend?
* Will doing a larger exhaust and extractors have any effect on the engine cooling? She runs a bit hot on hills etc. If a larger exhaust can reduce that even a tiny bit it's probably worth moving it up the list of priorities for mods.

hi, i have a toyota hilux 2.8diesel running a garrett t25 turbo, got all this installed as a kit with a 2 1/4 exhaust with a hotdog
The turbo is currently set at bout 9 pound boost, my question; is this exhaust right, like would i get better power/torque/or less temp from bigger or from mandrel bent exhaust?

it is non intercooled and have a bonnett scoop to help cool it ...

hi
with your gq you can run extractors and 2.5" and this will still be ok if you turbo it
if you are going to put in an extra tank you will need to pot the exhaust under the side of the car and then run it back under just before the rear tyre
mandrell bent is a type of bending the keeps the same radios in the pipe all the way through the bend it does not crush the ppipe
the better flowing exhaust wont cool you engine any more you may have a blockage in the bottom of your radiator

by increasing pipe size you will gain a little more power but the biggest advantage is that the turbo will spool up a lot quicker and it wont take as long to get to max boost

So do you think to go with 2 1/4 mandrel bent or 3", also it was dyno'd on the 2 1/4 pipe bent exhaust would i need to get it re dyno'd with the new exhaust do you think?

How are things? You have some great advice which everyone would appreciate. I recently fitted a TRD supercharger to my 3.4 V6. Heaps more low down & very happy. I also have some headers I would like to fit. What would you suggest in the way of size, muffler etc. from the header back? Thanks for your time. Regards Mickey

Hi,
I just put a full 2.25" mandrel bent exhaust with Pacemaker 2-piece extractors on my 2002 FZJ105 GXL auto, bought from a reputable exhaust shop in Brisbane.

Sounds ok from outside, a little breathy but inside there is a really bad drone at 1500-3000rpm.

What can I do to fix it?

One mob here reckon an in-line resonator is the go, the guy who made the exhaust thinks a "triple-flow muffler" will fix it right up...

Advice?

you have 2 choises either a 2.5' single system with straight through mufflers or a 2.25"twin to the mufflers with an x pipe in it then 2" striaght through mufflers and 2" tails
the second system works a bit better
but it all depends on the aviable room under your car

i do a lot of them if it has no reso in the tail go to the reckers and get a rear tail muffler of a 100 series petrol put this in the rear it is straight through
in the front you should have a barrell thet is 7"round 22" long amd straight through thiese 2 mufflers in combination give good power and no drone

First up - great tech in this thread - you are a champion for keeping it going for so long.

Have you ever made an exhaust for a 4JB1-T (2.8L 4 cylinder Turbo Diesel) - they are found in Holden Rodeo's and Isuzu MU's.

I have plans to run 13-14psi boost eventually, will 2.5" be sufficient ?

I don't want it to be very noisy, I had a 2.5" on my patrol and that was quite good in terms of noise suppressing.

Thank you once again for your tech, if you were in Brisbane I know where my business would be going to :)

running a turbo at 14psi or 1 bar of boost the exhaust need two be 3" to get max power turbo diesels are not at all loud if you run a 6" round x 16" long straight through muffler this will be enough to stop any harsh sound

I am pulling my switzer pos turbo off and replacing with a garret T03 on my 2.8 hilux.

Though possibly a touch big it is a servicable unit to use and what I have. also going to set the oldmans up for the same.

After having all my plates cut up, whats should my outlets be from the exhaust outlet on the engine? Same as the overall of the outlet or a little larger? How large should my outlet pipe from the turbo be? I belive 2.5 to 3" is acceptable and am under the impression that bigger is better for a turbo vehicle....

What you suggest all up, cheers mate

hi there if your running around 10 lb boost 2,5 is a good overall size if you wish to rund more boost go to 3" run a straight through muffler 1 will be enough

with making your mnifold make sure u use the same internal pipe size to match your exhaust port size keep your manifold pipes short then your turbo will spool up quicker and use but weld elbows from a plumbing supplier thiese are very strong thick mandrell bends also put a brace from the turbo plate back to the block for support

you could go to a 3' system with a straight through muffler
as far as hi flow cats are concerned it is all a bit of a falacy
it is a bit like a larger piece of pipe
there is no difference in a ceramic brick inside the cat as there are only about 5 manafactures of the catalyce material in the world. and they are all made the same
the only difference is that you could possiably find a cat withh a much larger body which would give you more area to flow through

my sugestion for a cat woul be to go to a new large s/steel core cat these flow about 20% better than the older ceramic ones

having a resenator is up to you depends how loud you want it
but i dont think you will need one

try using a magnaflow muffler instead of a genie they are much stronger and better packed

I also have 3.0TD patrol, is going the full 3" requiring mandrel bends instead of say 2 3/4" press bent going to be much difference.
I understand that there is quite a few bends in the patrol's exhaust, and it will benefit from the best flow possible, but I guess what im asking is the difference out of both sizes going to be worth the jump in price or am i going to see similar performance and sound out of both exhausts. (this will be with no resonators, cats or mufflers by the way)

Sorry if that sounds like a stupid question :? :?:

Nothing special, just the cheapest viable option :)

That's a 30cm sliding square on the ground, the exhaust is pretty short as it only goes from the motor to just behind the driver's door...

Hi exaustfix,
I have a Mitsubishi Pajero 2.6L. I'm going to do a turbo conversion so i have to make a new exaust. The engine is going to work at about 1.3 bar so any info about the proper exaust (tube diameter, muffler size - i like low pitch but not to much noise! etc.) is really appreciated. Note that the car is not going to be used as a drift car, so i don't want to loose the low end.

hi there i have a 300tdi disco with the fuel pump tweaked and more boost would it be advisable to remove front muffler to allow better flow till i get a new zorst?
