Heard a little rummor from when they all got together today. Seems there is about mid 40 teams still in it and sound like the top runners are
(in no particular order)
Rohan and Wayne
Cass Jones
Greg Scanlan and Mark
Laurie and Shaun
Kim Bolton
Cooper and Hummer
chunk and chipper

     Latest news:

This morning the placings were as follows:
1st Rohan Kanavan
2nd Cass Jones
3rd ??? (White GQ with V8, Black Bonnet??)) any1 have an idea?
4th Laurie Sterbeck
5th TEAM HOON!!!

Sorry about any names spelt wrong...

Anyway, Someone called Waterford rolled, knocked the window out, "no-one hurt" and still competing.
White USA car in group B not competing anymore (actually quite a few trucks aswell).

In regards to Team Hoon, they had 3 stages today.
Ist stage they finished in time.
2nd stage...well!...they were 50mtrs from the finish line and doing the final winch when Wazza ran out, got the rope, started running and their engine stopped again. DNF
3rd Stage...DNS... truck wouldnt start.

Apparently they think it could be a crank angle sensor, at the moment they are on their way to pick it up from the workshop...Wazza was running to town to get it, (their truck stopped again), when hoon caught up with him...(Truck started again)... Let's hope this is the problem.
They are doing a Denian Stage tonight at 8pm.

also....apparently their might be a protest in regards to someone lodging a protest, (in regards to the size of Procomp tyres)...!!

and...everyone in group B have suffered punctures except Team Hoon..they are using Maxxis Tyres...
That's all the goss for now...... Bel :P

It took about 8 phone calls to get this info (kept on dropping out) but here's the latest from The Hulk.

Graeme and Jeff, along with the rest of the field, gathered at HQ today (Silverton?) to do three different stages - all fast runs through creeks/gullies with sand, "bloody big" rocks and a water crossing (called "The Sheep Dip") thrown in to keep things interesting.

The boys are on top of the world after absolutely blitzing the DNF times in all three stages.

DNF time 15:00 - ET for The Hulk around 6:00
DNF time 10:00 - ET for The Hulk around 6:00
DNF time 10:00 - ET for The Hulk sub 5:00

(ET = Elapsed Time)

As you can see - the results are certainly worth crowing about ! They seem to think that were in the top third of the field for each stage.

They are currently enroute to Denian for a night stage (in the sand) and will line up for a similar event tomorrow morning before heading off for a pore cleansing dip in the rejuvenating mud at Viewmont.

I think that Jeff said that they did a tyre today (can't be sure) but it can't have held them up judging by their ET's.

Jeff confirmed that the apparent cause of GQHOON's engine trouble was most likely a crank angle sensor (Graeme's a Grease Monkey so The Hulk boys stopped to help them get back to civilisation for repairs). Sorry folks, but the awful phone coverage meant that I couldn't get any further info on other crews - I'll keep trying though !

Apparently the next likely phone contact will be Friday PM.

GO THE HULK !

toughnut wrote:Hey guys, just getting a bite to eat while my windscreen is getting replaced. We had a little lie down today in one of the short Poolamica stages. Still going strong though. It was just a safety thing to replace the windscreen. There should be pics of me on here soon. There were a lot of people taking photo's. Hulk is doing well. Bruce in the lime green rangie pushed his fan through the radiator yesterday but has replaced the fan and repaired the radiator. Cass and Kym are both doing really well. Terrence the South African is going great, he hasn't DNF'd anything and is now the only one in our group that hasn't. Nick Mannell is going well and we haven't really had any major breakages yet. That's a feat in itself having done both Nundooka and Poolamica. We are out to Denian tonight and then Viewmont for the mud on Friday. Thanks for all the support guys and I'll let the other guys know as well  :D

spoke to heath last night. He was on his way back to Broken Hill to do some welding repairs to his A frame.Said it had cracked through centre pin area.He also said that run through the darling river was the stage that most people balked at due to the depth of the water and risk of blowing too many winch motors.Only one dnf to date.Ian has apparently blown three winch motors and suffering from suspension problems, mostly shock problems. Will post more info as it comes through.

Hoon boys stopped working on truck 2am this morning...they still don't know what's wrong.."major dissapointment" to them... Wazza did say to thank Dennis and his Crew at Silver City as they continuously are helping all the competitiors, not charging for workshop and feeding competitors hot soup and bbq's...Fantastic ppl and much appreciated!!!

Mrs Hoon #1 & #2 - Sorry to hear the Hoon boys can't get up and running - what a shame! Here's hoping they find & fix the problem and can get moving again. Everyone puts so much time effort and $$$$ into this event and it's great to see people supporting each other. Big thumbs up to Dennis and crew at Silver City and I'm sure there are lots of other people down there that deserve many many thanks for helping out competitors as well. Group B (Hulk etc) are heading out to Denian this morning to play in the sand and off to Viewmont later for the water and mud stages - so that will be interesting !! Any info will be received gratefully and of course, we will post any that we get thru - not hopeful for phone coverage today tho'. See ya !!

Fantastic to see Laurie and Sean doing well. The hilux only went back on the road a few weeks ago with a toyota V8 to replace the old turbo diesel.

Team Hoon's OBC has come to an end... boys have put truck on trailer
They enjoyed the whole experience, but even though it has come to an end.....hopefully they'll be back next year and have another go at it. This times the Hoon Ladies are going!!!! ;)
They are off to Denian to have a look and then heading home... I should have some pictures from today from Wazza, so I will post them on here tonight.
Thank you Sandy Pandy for all your updates and concerns...Good luck to your team.

Good Luck to everyone still competing...this has been an enjoyable and frustrating experience! :D

I've pulled the pin as well. As we were driving out to Denian for the sand our pyro gauge was sitting on almost 600 degrees just cruising on the highway. We tried a whole heap of stuff and couldn't sort it out so rather than damage the engine we've called it a day. Guess I'll have to come back next year to make sure I finish it  :D

they hydro'ed the engine on day 1 in the mud.. From that I would doubt they were still going.

I cant see how carnage is great.. Am I missing something?

Lots of effort time and money goes into getting ready and into these events.
To be out on day 1 or 2 wouldnt be seen as   awesome shit by the dudes competing.

GQHoon & Toughnut - Sorry to hear the bad news !! Sure is a tough comp ! I'll be more than happy to see our team "Hulk" finish the mud bath and water run tonight without carnage - wonder how well they'll "float"?
I'm sure looking forward to seeing you HOON Ladies next year! Also looking forward to the pics later on tonight - thanks too for all your updates so far.
Anyone know how many trucks are actually still competing?????

Hope the boys have a safe trip home.

Cheers
Sandy
