Hey All. We got home last night. Chris's Wife was rushed to hospital so we left early. That makes me sort of happy that it was cancelled.

We had a ball though. A few minor issues until Campbells run where we fried a clutch in the deep heavy wet sand. We were towed back to BH and then got the message form Chris's wife. Up until then we had a stage win and a third in our group so we were happy with how we were going.
Had a good group, Kevy Nott and Daz, Laurie Griffiths and Kym bolton just to name a few although a mention must go to Muppet (adrian Parker). A real aussie character, a guy you just have to love and first one to lend a hand. He towed us out of Poolamaca and into BH with out a second thought.
Our passage controllers, mick whitehead and norm needham were a pleasure to travel with and made the journey as easy as they good.

This OBC will go down in history that's for sure, and while i wish to take nothing away from the Thai guys the results will never show a true reflection of the winners of the 2007 OBC.
With the conditions the were bestowed upon them i have to say that the organisers really done a tremendous job in trying there upmost to give us an event without destroying relations with local authorities. Any one who has different views should step up to the plate and attempt the event themselves or keep there trap shut. BIG round of applause to the organisers.
Cheers, Dan

of course it won't and I wouldn't think that anyone would consider that. But they won what was the comp and congrats to them. Hopefully they and other competitors will come back next year for a full comp.

Hopefully this does not continue to be a trend for future events. I know how important foreign entrants are to help grow the sport. But rules are rules, and everyone else must abide by the CCDA rules.

Well done to everyone, and congrats to the winners. Hopefully i'll be there next year too.

On a brighter note, well done to all those who attended and attempted OBC 07'. Its amazing to see an event restricted too because of such conditions as excessive rain etc, when in the last few years we have had such bad drought conditions, who would of thought rain/road closures would exist out there.
Anyway well done to the thai's from sunny Weipa.

We've just driven back from Broken Hill, in our Comp Truck!!! I think only two trucks drove there and back...all the rest were trailored or trucked in!!! we left 6am this morning surrounded by blue skies!!! :bad-words:

Anyway lets face it in all the 9 yrs of the OBC we've been pretty lucky with the weather......this year was v. different, and although it was v. disappointing for EVERYONE, at least the farmers have had much needed relief from the drought in some areas at last. Driving home seeing so much water everywhere was great.

We were in group B this year and our first year to start at Denian(the sand) and then move on to Viewmont (the mud). We had a blast/so much fun......and the rain didn't dampen anyone's spirits either........it actually made the transit stage between properties on Mon nite the best fun ever!!!

Sadly by Tues nite things got worse & with road closures, all the groups couldn't move or continue to the next comp property, so we had to sit it out until word got thru that the obc had been cancelled.

Even tho each group competed at two seperate properties....A & B @ Denian & Viewmont & C & D at Poolamacca & Nandooka......the only stages we'd ALL done, was the Sat nite Creek Dash and the 2 Prologue courses at the Quarry in Broken Hill.....and they were used to get an overall result.

Stage placings where worked out from the 2 groups that had competed at each of the 2 properties. So teams in Group A & B took out the placings at Denian & Viewmont and C & D at Pollamacca & Nandooka....

The Thai Zooks were  awesome.....they went like the clappers and the drivers knew how to drive alright...in any conditions....with foot flat to the floor! They were unreal! and blew us all away. We would of loved to see the outcome after a full week at all the properties and reckon they would still of been up there kicking butt!

We had the best time ourselves and our truck didn't skip a beat, we even winched up the sand wall in good time (Fish ;) )....just annoying to break a winch cable on the tank first round. We don't have a fancy truck but our object is always to see out the week and we certainly had a good start with no damage! unlike some in our group who wouldn't of made it on to day 3!

A huge buzz, if not daunting to be first car out the starting block at the Sat nite Creek Dash, but at least we got in in time this year and the steering issues didn't return to haunt me...thanks to the work put in by the Mitchell Bros 4x4 & more of Brookvale prior!...and Eugene of course. Pro Comp tyres were exo too, silent as on the road as well.!

We had the best Passage Controllers Alan & Adam......who spoilt us rotten! the nite at Viewmont Sheering shed will be long remembered too.....

Time to catch up on some sleep now.......

Here's to next year which is going to be bigger and better than all the years put together. Entries are already pouring in so get started!

Lastly a special thanks to everyone involved this year......and remember it wasn't only the competitors who lost out! everyone did!

OBC Pics Group B (Denien & Viewmount)

Post by 2dextreme »

Had an Awesome Group to Follow

Rowan Cannervan & Todd Robards pushed each other hard through ALL Stages... The Best Stage challenge against each other I would have to say was at The Motor Carna where it was make or break ALL the way through particularly being a Tailgate chase as Rowan slipping through by 3 seconds in front of Todd (with just the skin of paint between the two in varies of places)

Even the Rainy Weather was a dampner I will be back next year. The organisers had to call the OBC off as it was ridiculously muddy and wet, by the end of the week we'd all be wearing mud for stilt's and now have calf muscles like the Hulk...

The Thai team what can I say... let the pics of the inside view of their 'CAR' explain it all... It was mentioned at the start that they didn't meet the CCDA rules... But they troubled themselve to be at the event (sob story) they then were allowed to compete... But went well!
As for their winch... I've never seen a winch go so quickly, it's neck snapping! (The Thai team can winch up to 40kph)

Hi all, got home last night around 11pm, we left Broken Hill yesterday around 8am. We were car 31 Steve Quinn and Paul Beretta, white GQ, sponsored by Mannell Motors.

Man what an adventure!

We were in group B and went to Denian first then Viewmont. We had a heap of fun and had an awesome group of people who were fun and only too happy to help those oif us with less experience. Particularly Todd & Ivan and Rohan & Wayne were happy to help us out with some advice on several occaisons so we learned a lot from those guys. The W.A. boys were absolute pissers and top fellas too.

On the whole I am dissappointed that we didn't get to complete the event, after about 10 months and a whole lotta $$ we were pretty bummed out not to make it due to circumstances out of our control, if it had been the car we could have lived with it, but the weather, what a bummer! But on the flip side how good is it for the cockies, they've had a heap of rain now and are hopfully in for a good season, so I'm happy for them cos it's been real dry out there for a long time, so good luck to those folks.

First stage we went a lot better than we expected to go and cam home in about 3.34 from memory, DNF was 4mins, we were down the slow end of te field but it was awesome.

At the quarry we lined up against our sponsor Nick Mannell and Shane in our first round which was pretty funny, as you could imagine there was plenty of trash talk going on and we were all pumped. Anyway Nick beat us to the boiler but then had some drama with their cable, I ran like a good little winch bitch and got us over the boiler and into the gate wth Nick and Shane not too far behind. We were just happy to beat Nick!

ON going back to Parc Feme (spelling?) we noticed we had an issue with the front end and had to head to Silver City to get it welded up or risk it ripping apart totally and stuffing our week, so we took the 100 point penalty and got it fixed, we missed our second round at the quarry, but rejoined the group to go to Denian.

Denian was awesome fun in the sand, the car drove well for a big truck and the V8 pulled like a teenager. I had to remind Quinny that it didn't have a limiter on one stage as it revved right off the tacho, but those 5litres are tough motor!

My highlight at Denian was watching the match race between Rohan Canavan and Todd Robards. Rohan in the 6litre supercharged shorty and Todd in the 5.7litre Ute, it was nothing short of awesome to watch, wicked driving, big horsepower and tough trucks, Todd and Rohan were wringing their trucks necks. Rohan won but not by much, well done to both of the boys on giving the spectaors a real display of hat the sport is all about.

We left Denian to head to Viewmont and the heavens had opened up, it rained like a bastard all the way. Just getting to Viewmont was a misson, I've got awesome in cab footage of the conditions, it should have been an SS in itself!

The first stage at Viewmont by the time we got there was looking bloody horrible and the group before us only had three teams make it through and it had a lot more rain on it in that time, but credit to Kill Bill and Wally, the boys manned up and were the first ones in, they DNF'd but I take my hat off to them for even attepting it, the big grader was bouncing trying to pull them out so it was well stuck! Not long after that they got us all together and decided that we should bail out while we could, so we headed for "camp" and bunked down in the poo.

We ended up spending two days camped in that paddock before they moved us to the shearing shed on Viewmont, which was like a 5 star hotel after where we were, Graham the property owner fed us a big feed of lamb, and we had a great night there. Next morning we got the word we could head for Broken Hill and we were out of there, via Menindee where the Water Board had arranged for High Pressure cleaners to get the crap off the cars. We were pretty careful on the way out to not dig the road up as little as possible, but the conditions were horrendous and many of the spectators got dragged out.

All in all it was a great adventure and the people in Broken Hill are fantastic, we had a ball and would definately go back with the right set up for the job. Good luck to all the farmers out that way, hope the rain helps get things rolling a bit for them!

Cheers, Beretts
