Hi guys, just finished reading all the posts and looking at all the photos, reat job to everyone for their updates.

If anyone has any photos or video footage of car 69 please PM me.

We started off with a blinder on Sunday night taking a second and fourth place, to our great surprise this put us in 1st Monday morning, unfortunately Monday proved to be the opposite, a few poor stages and a disqualification saw us drop from 1st to 10th. This is where we sat for most of the week as our stage performances went up and down.
Monday we split a steering hose which sprayed oil all over our hydralic winches clutch so while we made it up the mini winch wall our time was fairly slow.
Wednasday we drove 4 stages, 2 navs and a rocky wall which we snappd a rope on, this hurt our time but a quick knot saw us finish in a time of 6 minutes which was still fairly respectable, we also discovered on this stage that we had been driving with no front locker all week explaining why we had not driven the mud stage on Tuesday. The last Wednesday stage for us was the mud which we were supposed to drive on tuesday, Jason was on fire here and we ended up winning this stage by about a minute, one quick winch in the big mud hole saw us out and in the finish box really quickly.
Thursday started off with the oval sprint, we missed the gate due to the dust so we had to back up, we were later told by the marshals that had we gone through the gate we would have smashed the best time by about 2 seconds, thems the breaks i suppose. The 5 hour nav was next up and we ended up with 71 points which were very pleased with. Ian Poultridge (spelling) managed to get an amazing 96 points however broke down 800M from the finishing gate and DNF'd. A 20k night sprint down the creek was next, wow what a rush, we were constantly looking for waypoints, low branches and holes, it was a great ride.
Friday morning saw us start in 10th. The diamond was first, this was Jasons chance to make good on the prior days gate miss, man was i holding on, we reached a max speed of 131km on the GPS and got the second best time being beaten by the boys from ARB Rockhampton. Another creek run was next and another second place to the Rockhampton boys. Last stage for the event was the Cliffhanger, man what a wall 4.2m high, watching the other guys getting to the top was amazing, Baz and Jim you guys rock. Our aim was to just get up top in a reasonable time which we did accomplish.

Overall we finished with 10 top 10 finished earning ourselves a tidy sum of $1200, and went from 10th place to 4th overall for the event, 70 points behind the Assasin.

A big thanks goes to Jason for asking me to nav for him, you are one sick puppy on the sprint stages dude.
Joe.

Well what a week - no longer a 'virgin' lost that Sunday on the winch climb and then the mud - No brown pants moments.
Thanks to all out there - Officials, marshals (especially for the pointers), cooking crew - great grub when I was up for it. The other competitors - what a great spirit - Moose thanks for the assistance after that soupy mud stage getting alternator, injectors etc working again.
Alberto - cheers for 'protecting' your navi - but as the others have said - blasting along that creek at night was awesome !!!!!!!!!
- as was the night winch on Monday - straight lining it for that gate was 'interesting'.

Hope to see you all out there again - :)

Hey Guys, I thought I had better keep up with the jones's and post some pics for you to check out. I have about 6000 pics so it will take me a couple of weeks to get them sorted and up on the web. Also keep an eye out in Overlander mag and Dirt Comp, I will be putting together articles from the event and I will get as many pics in as I can.
Great event and well done to all you competitors, that is the highest standard of teams and vehicles I have seen yet. Also well done to Hobbsy, Rudi and their team, its refreshing to see someone running an offroad event for the right reasons. I was beginning to think the business of event management had forgotten about the sport.

Enjoy the pics I enjoyed getting them.

Cheers Chippa

It was good catching up Mal, racing each other to waypoints on the 5 hour nav stage was a blast.

What an awesome event! Apart from a leaky swivel hub and an ear infection from that filthy water, we're rearin to go for Ateco!

Cliffhanger has improved out of sight since 06. I don't know any other event where you can have a good hot shower, decent dunnies and a good feed every day, then do some of the best courses in the country, it was awesome!

It was an epic trip home, after we finished on Friday we packed the truck ready to leave. The presentation night ended for us at 4am and then up at 7am to head home ( a bit rough around the edges) only to find the truck had a flat tyre, then we had wheel stud problems, then mid way between Ivanhoe and Hay we lost all electrical power, nothing whatsoever! But the motor was still running so we drove it to hay. We got into Hay and found the battery terminal had fatigued and broken off at the starter. So out with the Generator and drill and we made a new terminal and away we went again with lights and wipers! What a luxury.

My highlight for the week was arriving at the event at 1am Saturday morning, heading over to the central camp fire for a beer and meeting the Rockhampton boys, what a bunch of legends! We ended up sitting up until 5am, just pissing ourselves laughing at the two dudes from Rocky.

Congrats to Rudi and Hobzee and all the marshalls for an awesome event, its better than anything else I've ever competed in. All of the officals and organisers were awesome and it went pretty smoothly. The best thing is that they are all such reasonable people, and willing to listen if you have a concern, awesome job!

Also a big Thanks to Leon and Sandy for looking after us all week and having an awesome sense of humour, you guys rock and I hope the hangover wasn't too bad from the Jimmy cans! Hahahaha

Looking forward to 2010 Cliffhanger!!!!

Loved the 2008 DVD, great work from Mudrhino and team.

The only improvement could be a tad more commentary at the start of the runs on vehicle specs / course layout / competitors / hazards etc.

I'm sure Hobzee and the team have some interesting input to give us mere mortals who couldnt make it there.

Cant wait for the DVD. :D
