Exhaust Noise

Hi Exhaust Tech - Love your work, much appreciated
I have a HZJ105 w/ AXT turbo and 2.5" Mandrel system. At 100 - 110km/Hr the engine is doing 2250RPM - 2400RPM. There is an irritatating buzzy drone from in front of the drivers feet. It is not exhaust noise out the end of the pipe, that I don't mind. I don't know if these engines are just noisy at that speed, as there is nothign at 2100RPM. Any thoughts on changing the "in pipe" noise of an exhaust?
Thanx
Paul

u need to put in a new flew with braiding on the inside as well

hi there
with your car if you want to keep al the low down power go for a set of extractors that has small pipe sizes rather than big ones dosent matter if they are press bent something like motovator and stay with the 2.25" pipe with a large straight through muffler(10x6x18long)for the front
and a bm443 resenator in the rear
hope this helps

HI
a set of extractors with a 2.25" system with straight through mufflers
will be perfect for your 4b you wont loose on gas it will bring your gas power roughly to where your petrol power is now
about$700

Hi Exhaustfix, great thing your doing here, could i please get your opinion/help.
i have been building a comp truck for a while and have nearly finished. I have entered Tuff Truck and am on the last few things to finish the truck.
the budget is totally blown and am now really stretching the funds.
it is a 40 series with a Toyota 1uzfe V8
on the drivers side of the truck the steering shaft runs only 75 - 80 mm from the head and the manifold obviously dosnt fit, it only affects the first 2 ports.
the other side fits straight on no problems.
have spoken to a reputable exhaust shop who does lots of comp trucks and he has quoted me approx $1400-$1600 for the headers and around $400 for the exhaust, all up approx $2000.
i have no worrys spending the money and will but before tuff truck it is a stretch.
i can cut down the manifold on that side and weld it up myself to get it going and run it like that for TT
Q: will having one standard manifold and one shortened bodgey one affect the engine very much? can i get away with it for TT?
THANKS

this will not hurt it to much it may just get a little hot in that manifold
2000 sounds like a lot for that job
are u in melbourne
icould do it for about $1650

Hi,
A bit of a different one for you, in Melbourne so you'd probably get the job.
Toyota 2T-G engine, a 4cyl twin cam 8 valve hemi motor
capacity is 1940cc
compression is 11:1
rev range 4000-8000
cam timing 300 deg intake, 300 deg exhaust duration, .424 lift.
application is supersprint and hillclimb
not street registered
body is 82 KE70 Corolla, 900kg at fighting weight
4:1 or 4:2:1 pipes? pipe size? max allowable 96db. side exit is acceptable but may prefer regular rear exit.

Also, have a 253 in RN46 Hilux.
Have you used any off the shelf extractors for this application before as there is not a lot of space.
would just a 2.25" twin system be ok for the rest?

ok being none turbo 2.25" with straight through mufflers press bent is ok for this

price on 2.25" is 280 on 3" is 750

there is nothing to fit this conversion not even short block huggers will fit
thy need to be custom fabricated

Hey Zorstech!,
I've just picked up a new Mazda 6 MPS, the turbo 2.3 jobbie.
What are your thoughts on a good cat back (for now) system for these...have you done any work on these before? The system splits
I think before the diff, then into two bid ass mufflers down back.
Wouldn't want too much of a racket, particularly not droney on the
highway...but I guess there'd be good gains to be had like with most
turbo vehicles?
Or should I just bight the bullet and go turbo back straight off the bat?
Cheers...look forward to your advice mate.

how to calculate primary and secondary pipe diameter and pipe length for secondary resonance around 5-6000 rpm?

calculations dont work to well
for primary use a pipe that has the same internal size as your portand aprox 12" long
for secondries reduce pipe by 1 size and 1.5xthe length of the primaries the will gwt u close to the ball park

Exhaust Doc,
Hi this question has been sort of asked by a couple of people but not entirely answered.
I have a GQ Patrol with a TD42 naturally Aspirated Engine. At the moment the Exhaust is stock. BUT the muffler is about to fall apart as I am missing an exhaust mount (will be fixed soon). I am also planning on a DTS Turbo later this year (do not want to throw away a reasonably new exhaust then) I will be running between 7 and 10 psi boost then.
Should I put in a 3" straight through system? Will 2.5" be enough for the turbo later. Would it be Ok to run 2.5" from the manifold and then 3" for the rest of the system?
Also Extractors now and then swap out with the turbo or wait for the turbo and change the manifold then?
Thanks for your help.

hey exhaust doc,
got a turbo diesel 4.2 patrol with a high mount turbo. got my 3 inch exhaust fitted up today which was all good. however i was hoping for it to be all the way up to the turbo but instead they stuck with the standard turbo dynamics dump pipe which from memory is around 2 3/4 inch diameter, then it goes out to 3 from there. they told me they originally had planned on doing it all the way up there but decided it wouldn't make really much of a benifit cause they would have to squash the pipe for it to fit which would restrict.
what do you think? i'm willing to find someone else to do the dump pipe if you think its worth the effort. cheers, thanks for your time

G,Day I am informed that a petrol 4 Runner V6 will benifit from Hurricane extractors and 2" into single 2.5" sports exhaust. Then once inlet mods are made a half decent power increase will result.
On the exhaust side do you see anything wrong with the setup above.
Cheers

ok. final question i think. runing a single turbo on an 8, will putting it on the left hand bank with a pipe joining to the right hand bank screw the valves to bad? alot like the kits they make eg. capa ls1 kit. except with it lined up along side the cylinder bank.
