The plug at the front of the fuel pump is engine speed feedback. Im guessing the wires going from it to the ecu supply this feedback to the ecu first, and thats why you get idle with clutch in....(accelerator position matches revs) from there it goes to the dash to run tacho. and, another guess is it gets the spedo pulse feedback from the spedo aswell.

well it came down to a crushed hard line that runs under the rocker cover. it went from manifold pressure to the boost pressure sensor, now it bloody goes like a rocket for having 35" tyres...
many thanks to jimmy beam and scuba steve for working out what it was..
still no tacho but will get a auto elec to work that one out.. now off again to drink some more.
cheers all..

You might need that extra power if those 6m waves start chasing you up the beach. The beach might be a bit of a fizzer after all.

Mate, try Jason at Total Care 4wd in Seven Hills Sydney. He has done the conversion of 1HDFTE with 5 spd auto into his 75 series.

Thanks chief I will but I'll bet he used the dash as well. Looked at a 79 series and the dash still looks like older utes and that would be the easiest. I was goign to see if the innards of the ute tacho would graft intot he wagon but the size and sweep are different. Maybe I need to look at a 100 series dash.
