> HIDs might melt the plastic light housing,
......Yes they might if you put a high wattage HID bulb into a plastic housing that had a 25 watt halogen bulb. Maybe.
But I grabbed a fancy laser digital temperature probe thingy and shoved it on to a 130w H3 halogen and got 590 degrees at 12.3 something volts. Then could not get anything over 130 degrees on a HID bulb, well and truly after its initial startup time...
Hence is why I got away shoving 7 HID bulbs into the one Lightforce Blitz housing. It took over 10 minutes of run time before bits got hot enough to start to melt.

Just regarding your question on the Hella 1000's Bushy, I pulled this off there web page just now.
Advanced free-form (FF) reflector for optimum light distribution
Modern clear glass lens
Weatherproof metal bracket
Rallye FF 1000 Driving Lamps, incl. 12V 100W (H1) globe and protective cover.
100W Pencil Beam Driving Lamp – 12V 1370
100W Spread Beam Driving Lamp – 12V 1371
Accessories
Clear Protective Cover (optional) 8146
Neither Hella nor cibie use a H2 globe anymore. I believe they both run with the H1 now. (Hella don't use the H2 globe anymore due to it being unreliable) Some of the very old hellas ran a H2 globe (they just need a new reflector to convert them to hid)

Cheers Steve for the info!
(Hella were still using H2's up until around 2002 at least. But did not know/didn't realise that they had (finally) changed)
