I've got two Xj's one on 35" and is fairly unstoppable. The other is on 31" and i've just swapped in a new motor so if I can do it in my mother in laws garage then all I can say is that any mechanic who says they are hard to work on should go back to tech. Once you get to know where to look for parts you soon find out they are not that expensive.
I would recommend an xj, cheap, reliable and go great off road. You should go to http://www.ausjeepoffroad.com/forum/index.php for totally biased opinions on jeeps. Good luck !

Yeah im looking at going to a Jeep ZJ, 35s, gas and gears. Coming from a 89 Paj on 33's.

Check out pirate4x4 in the states for ideas.

It was either a ZJ, a defender or 80 series. Jeep is so far winning mainly due to it being a bit different.

35s!!!!! I assume you have some fairly decent(and expensive) diff upgrades in there. What drivetrain modifications have you done?

IMHO if building for 35"s the XJ is a better platform than the ZJ.

And you know about disco elctrical problems beacause ?................. what a lot of crap, never heard of one that had any major problems that werent related to being submerged in mud - jeeps are much more likely to catch fire and Paj's well he has already been there. There are a lot of myths about landy's out there and yet its the nissans and toyo's that drop their guts everywhere.

Every disco that I test drove 2 years ago in the 7 to 8k range had major electrical issues.

ie: turn the indicator on the horn goes off, or the tacho flickers, weird stuff like that.

And you know because why, you own "one".

They are worthless and devalue by 50% as soon as purchased.

the way everything is going at the moment, all cars are depreciated a hell of a lot as soon as you turn the key.

They depreciate if you don't drive them too.

Super 30 front, upgraded disc front, over the knuckle steering, Rear dana 44 superior axles arbs front and rear, disc brakes in the rear. Custom driveshaft, slip yoke eliminator. U bolt conversions on yokes. 4.88 gears{?} in the diffs.

6.5" TNT customs long arms front, Rusty 6.5" lift in the rear.
Warn front and rear bars, warn winch. rock sliders. Milford cargo barrier......... but apart from that its pretty stock :lol:

That sounds like a very nice setup that's for sure! I am not sure I would be going anywhere near that extreme.
