My tip is there are still few nominations that have been received before the cut-off date and are not up yet. I also know of one nominee who has pulled out. I also know that the votes are going to count, and that Bandage Bear is raising money again for the Childrens Hospital. He managed to get $10k last year and wants to beat it this year.
My advise? If you have nominated, get your votes in! Or get in touch with Team Bandage Bear.

i love the fundraising i do. and i purchased some votes last yr...
but wouldnt it have been alot better to announce this before the start of voting etc??
before some people went and bought magazines?
it hasnt really been publicised, therefore people who may have been organised and got themselves a few magazines would have been better served being useless not buying any and then donating? - like last year?

just to add, after speaking with other competitors, its expensive enough without having to buy your way in. sure collect donations at the event... sure get your sponsors to pay the hospital not you or whatever... but why disadvantage other people who are struggling to compete as it is??

These are issues you would need to take up with Mark mate, but I find it hard to flame a guy for doing the work he does for the kids.
I do see your point though, and if Mark does this again next year, maybe he can take this onboard. I will pass on the feedback.

With our young bloke spending 3-4 days a week at Westmead Childrens Hospital, no one is going to convince me that Mark is doing bad thing, but if there is a way it can be done better, I know he will explore it.

Cheers,

Rick.

Hello all,

IT'S TUFF TRUCK TIME ONCE AGAIN! and yes i will be selling votes for charity, so if your keen to help raise money for the westmead childrens hospital, then contact me at mark@erh.com.au with your full name, phone number, postal address & email address (for receipt purposes only).

I will be selling votes at $1 per vote in multiples of 3, 5 & or 7 (all money orders or personal cheques are to be made out to the westmead childrens hospital ONLY - they can be posted to my Po Box 114 Neutral Bay NSW 2089 - once we have decided on the amount of vote you wish to purchase i will send a confirmation email - voting slips will be filled in and personally delivered by me to Tuff Truck officials once i recieve payment).

Once again any amount over $10 will result in a thank you letter & tax deduction receipt being sent to you from the hospital.

Any help is greatly asppreciated -

For those of you out there who might not agree with my methods, i apologise in advance - however i am only thinking about the sick childrens needs - so please try to understand -

I look forward to seeing all of you at this years Tuff Truck Event - good luck to everyone.

Kind Regards

as i said im all for the fundraising(i did the newy crew shirts for the cancer council 2yrs back).
and its a good cause.

my gripes are that its expensive enough without it becoming a bidding contest to get in.
also the punters out there who went to the trouble of cutting out voting slips and sending them in, their 7 votes wont mean much when people are buying 100's at a time. they might as well not bother?

*perhaps before the start of voting he could have had it setup for the public to donate to buy votes for the team they want?
*and competitors can also buy into this?
* or try to get sponsors to donate a $ value per point achieved by their vehicle?

last yr snowy nearly missed out as he was one of the few who didnt buy his way in, its sad to see it happen this way.

Dear mr Dirty Rock Star,

I really don't want this to become an issue like last year, however i feel a few things need to clarified.

Firstly - everyone has to buy their way in - either you pay a newsagent $9.95 for 7 votes or donate $7 to the wesmead childrens hospital, this is not a bidding war, because most of the drivers who bought votes last year, didn't need to, they just wanted to help the charity cause and in doing so raised themselves further up the driving order only.

Secondly - i felt that many people struggle to get their cars organised in time, pay the entry fee, go to work, look after kids etc etc and don't have the time to drive around looking for a newsagent that has more than a couple of mags, have the time to sit down and cut out hte slips, fill in the slips, post the slips etc - so i thought i would cheapen & speed up the process - i buy the mags, i cut the slips out of each mag, i fill in the forms, i personally deliver the forms to the officials and you get the tax deduction.

Thirdly - I am at the mercy of the magazines, i can only start to sell once i have the magazines in my possesion.

So i feel everyone has the same opportunity to get the votes - and as for last year, alot of drivers i spoke to didn't believe that there would be a full field - some gambled on that and lost.

IT'S A FACT THAT THE DRIVERS WHO MISSED OUT LAST YEAR, STILL WOULD HAVE MISSED OUT EVEN IF I HADN'T OF PUT 1 VOTE IN.

Anyway, buy or don't buy - IT'S THE KIDS WHO WIN IN THE END!

I wish you and your team the best of luck for this years event!

Kind Regards

Mark Mitchell

Not having a dig, you know me, but got a better method?

Mark M has explained that he can't do anything until he has the magazines himself. Plus, I'm not sure what the go is with media sponsorship? There could be issues there, but I'm sure I saw somewhere in Chit chat that bandage bear was back??? and yes it was before his post in this thread.

the voting system shouldnt be changed around opening it up to people who will just buy in.

IT IS A GOOD CAUSE but not the best way played.

so if i buy 7 votes who do you put down on the other 2 lines??

maybe next year you could think of some other method, maybe like talking with the organisers and adding $5 to the entry and giving a little bandage bear or something like that.
but leaving the voting system alone.

Why buy all the mag's, why don't you just write the childrens hospital a cheque? I tend to agree with DRS what you're doing (while it's supporting a good cause) is just making it more costly for competitors, once one starts buying heaps of votes they all have to start.
If you want to raise money why not run your own event, why make what is a fairly stupid system even harder and more costly for the competitors.
Isn't the public voting in their favorite truck whole idea behind the voting? It seems pointless to vote if competitors have to buy their way in anyway.

I gave a solution to the organisers which will hopefully will be implemented next year! - that the competitors & spectators buy the tickets online (like you would if you wanted a virgin plane ticket) and every entry pass gets 1 vote.

However you must remember that these magazines Dirt Comp & 4WD Monthly are major sponsors of the Tuff Truck event so they want as much exposure as possible eg people buying many magazines.

In relation to the question about if you buy $7 worth of votes, what happens with the other two lines?

I can sell your team 7 votes for $7, another team 5 votes for $5 and another team 3 votes for $3, so basically i raise $15 per voting slip.

Every year clubs, family & friends go hunting & pay lots of money for magazines to secure their team a place in Tuff Truck.

So whats the difference with having a club & its members for example go and purchase 50 mags from different newsagents at a cost of $497.50 for a total of 350 votes for their team, to having me buy the mags and have that same club donate $350 to the westmead childrens hospital for 350 votes and receiving a tax deduction for the club and at the same time knowing that they have helped the sick kids?

Anyway i hope this helps

Kind Regards

You buy 7 =$7
someone buys the 5=$5
someone else buys the 3 =$3
$15 for a $10 mag (if he does not get a bulk discount)
$5 for the kids from each magazine.

In the perfect world all Competitors could agree to purchase the same amount, then letting the rest to fate. In the perfect world that is.

As per one of my earlier posts,

i have made it faster & cheaper for the competitors -

In last years case its a fact that all votes sold for charity did not change who got in, only the running order

To answer 65mog

I do write personal cheques to the hospital and other needy people,

However i have seen an opportunity to turn purchasing $2,500 woth of magazines and selling them to people who may not necessarily of bought the mag, whilst also raising $10,000 last year and bringing better awareness for the hospital and getting a bit off good publicity for the 4x4 community.

I hope this answers your question

they get a mag to read if they vote the way it was intended.

im all for raising money for causes but there has to be a better way. as its still going to be a buy in format..they way you have it now.

so if my friends want to support the fund raising, they pay for the votes (no mag) they dont get the $5 off entry slip then they have to pay for the mag IF they go to the event

My idea is to sell votes cheaper than buying the magazines to competitors only!

The public is a different story, i only deal with competitors or a competitors representive.

you just said clubs, isnt that public??
so if you are only aiming at competitors then it is back to buying into the event which in turn makes the already steep entry fee even more are everyone needs to buy votes to get in.

you should not be able to sell votes to competitors as it turns everything to shiat. the voting system is for the PUBLIC to get the mags and vote for who they like, yes competitors will will go and buy some mags but they are not able to buy large amounts as they can when you do this..

there has to be another way to raise money without manipulating the voting process

As mentioned in earlier posts,

This has been going on since the start of Tuff Truck - ask any of the veteran competitors, they will tell you that they have, and would again buy as many mags/votes needed to get as high up the running order as possible.

As mentioned previously, the only way to have the voting process done exclusively by the public is to sell entry passes online like the ticketing systems used by virgin & jetstar etc 1 ticket = 1 vote

A large magority of the public turn up and pay at the gates!

This is not my system, i only utilize what have to work with!

You Don't have to be part of it! rely on the public votes!

I will say it again - IT'S ABOUT THE KIDS!

So untill the Tuff Truck officials changes the voting system, i will keep making lots of money for these sick kids.

ALL THE BEST
