I dont know anything about tyre making either. I was only guessing they were labled wrong as tyre mould can't shrink 2 inches.
They didn't. everyone with (say for example) a 37x12.5x15" maxxis has the same size tyres.
Everone with a 37x12.5x16" maxxis has the same size tyres - but different to the 37x12.5x15".
I think that's where the confusion is coming from (could be wrong - cbf re-reading the thread).
At the end of the day it's rare that the numbers on the sidewall accurately match the actual size of the tyre, irrespective of manufacturer. This is where pre-purchase research should come into play.

It states that the 315/75x16 MTZ is has a diamter of 33.5 x a width of 11.9 inches.....
can that be right?
I thought 315's were always 34.5 inches and more?
I have measured a basically new 315/75-16 MTZ mounted on a 16x8" rim with road pressures at it did measure up at around 33", not even close to 35" nominal.
Lookin at some maxxis buckshots in 33 inch Ya right I wouldnt run them with my 33 bfg and a limo slip or your in trouble. just order up in the cheap shit maxxis tyres and you get close to the size you want with the added bonus of only half the ks. serious guys they are cheap and nasty and cheap and nasty and you want to question the size let alone the quality. A 35 inch maxxis should be advertised as a 33 inch half life tyre no matter what tyre it is (quote i bout some 33 inch tyres for 250 bucks well congrats and enjoy)I sat a 33 bfg and a maxxis buckshot together and guess what------------ one was 100 bucks cheaper. ps in maxxis terms i have a 9 inch you know what(only measures 4 inch)
wish list (lockers,lift,endless air,winch,bar,spotties,35s,paint job,turbo,18yrs old hottie
The mickey thompson website states that the 305/75R16 is the 33x12.5 equiv, and the 315/75R16 is the 35x12.5
Dont know how that translates to real world- but i do know that my old Maxxis buckshots were..well... shot at around 38,000kms, and my MTZ's are only about 1/4 worn at 39,000kms.

Thats a really interesting one Ferrit. MT have (had???) 2 printed guides out, one is US based the other Aus. One specs the 315 with a metric diameter of a 35 and the other (I think the US one) gives the same tyre a metric diameter the same as a 33.
