Hi guys, I have a coilly as well. The reason I got mine was for the ride and for the reasonable cost of a newish car. I have found the same hurdles as I'm sure everyone else has, heaps of parts for leaf spring models but not much for coilly's. I am getting there though and will hopefully be able to show the others a thing or too and keep showing up the cruisers and patrols.

Sirzooky what mods have you done to your coily so far , any tips ?

I have fitted a few things, diff breathers, 235/75R15 mtr's, ipf headlight replacements and xenon globes, 2" exhaust, suzisport adjustable rear shocks and a insect screen infront of the radiator to stop grass seeds etc. I am doing things slowly for maximum effect for minimum outlay. Will be fitting a 2" bodylift as well as a three inch suspension lift Rockhopper gears and lockers in the not so distant future. The main thing limiting my performance offroad, other than lack of suspension travel and traction is the carby which starves on any real angles.

cant they just sell lifts with a disclaimer, lol or perhaps as a kit it could be sold with reinforcements? hmm how to reinforce a chassis?

I havnt been in heaps of leaf sprung zooks but is the ride really that much better in a coily?

No not really, Stock for stock I would say the leafy is more comfortable. But i'm sure not everyone will agree.

Before I changed the springs on my(brand new) 96 coily it wasn't half as good as my mates 95 mod standard leafy , With my new king springs I think the ride is better than a stock leafy.

have a look at the bumpstops of your coilly, most i have seen are so low standard that they are hitting.

a set of raise springs sorted all my rough riding issues.

i've driven RBs 3" coily, and my 2" leafy... ryan's is more comfy, but i like the feel of mine better, i can tell where it sits more. but that's prolly more cos i'm used to mine...

I too have a 97 coily. the front bearings etc are basically vitara. the front diff is high pinion and is diffrent to leafy. axles are longer than WT. When i bought mine new back in the day i had the choice of coily or an older WT demo. I knew there wasn't much available for coily but figured there would be by the time i wanted it. What a mistake. For the major part i did regret buying the coily but it was a lot better on-road. these days im almost happy with the way it works. just need to tweak front end a little and maybe shift the rear springs outboard a bit so its not so tippy.

welcome , On the 2nd photo it looks like your rear trailing arms are not the stock arms, am I right ??? round bar?

try some stiffer shocks and it is not half as tippy, it's the lunge that makes them feel unstable, i run ranchos (which are slightly too long) and run them at 3 or 4 (they are the old 5 setting ones) the ride is pretty harsh but it always feels like you are in control.....

i did have the rancho adj and was good. they are for sale. the arms are 80 series. it prob has about 6in susp and 3in body sitting on 33s. the weight of hilux diffs hold it on the ground.

I'm another one, mate of coiled's. Though mine's not nearly as radical.
Still running coily diffs and drivetrain. 2.1/2" spring, 2"body, custom Carroll's shocks up front, Monroes on the rear (the Rancho's wern't giving me enough down travel). S1 transfer gears, air locker rear, CIG up front. 30"BFG muddies. I've extended all the brake lines so they no longer act as retention straps. Added all the usual bar work

Oh - And your right about Coiled's control arms. 80 series.

hey fellow coilers

I brought mine roughly three years ago.
Love being able to drive some of the same tracks as the hiluxes and pootrols really annoys some guys i wheel with..

hey good 2 c there some coily owners around :D count me in i got a 98 coily bout it about a year ago, and its been put through hell, been wanting to mod it for so long too.

Yeah got a coily as well (kinda anyway) 92 Body on a 97 Coily Chassis.

Coils will be gone in a couple months though in favour of Air Shocks :cool:

i remember why i never replied to this thread...

there is so much talk about the wrong stuff..
you people saying this is weaker that is smaller... have you ever owned a coily or ripped one apart and actually measured things right next to a wt leaf... or ever driven one... or seen the chassis /towers bend ... :finger:

anyway i got one.. owned 3, wrecked 8.

ill try get some new pics on here... :D

hey fellas,
I got a coily too, and i love it, its perfect FOR WHAT I WANT, mild off road word and with the potential to be a mildly capable 4wd, with basic mods, the way i see it, if ya want to go hardcore and relatively cheap mods...buy leaf, if ya want mildly capable with basic mods buy coil, or you can mod the sh*t out of the coily and make it more capable than all of em.....i dont think coily owners are disagreeing with the fact they are less capable, just disappointed with the lack of aftermarket parts available, beside most of this sh*t is illegal anyway!(been there done that)

I certainly don't agree, I don't see how anyone could think that. I am a good friend of coiled and Tojo is my brother, both owning their coily's since new, although now both of them ride on lux diffs and 33's, their coilys were a far better ride than any leafy I have ever been in prior to the conversions.

if leafies are a harder ride than coilies, i feel sorry for those with leafys.

does anyone know what the color range consisted of cause
i've seen tonnes of blues, reds and whites what other colors were there
mines is a dark green and i've never seen another...

i also have a coily !!!!
i used to have the 1 litre in my avatar but rolled that.

apparently dark green was one of the rarest colours over here

as far as i know there is
Purple
Blue
Green
Light blue kinda aqua colour
Red
White
Black
Silver
and some others like black with silver flares and bumpers.

this man is definently on drugs lol

i have owned a leafy and a coily and have driven then both with standard suspention and 2 inch lifted suspention, the coily absolutely rips over the leafy in everything to do with ride and handling

I have a coily, had a leaf before that. the coily is a bit softer ride.

Will upgrade the coils one day but don't know with what yet.
