Nick
I used to race against a guy with a 240 cu inch hemi in a class limited to 241.6 cu inchs.
Apparently it was out of an early 50s dodge 1/2 ton truck.
It ran with the top cars in it's class but had weight disadvantages .
In the end he went to a Rover V8, weight savings, available HP parts etc.
You cannot replace cubic inches if you high torque figures at low revs,
the jap V8s just don't do that.

LowRanger wrote:I notice that most of the people that are talking about FORD v8's are talking Cleveland. They are ok if you want to just get a little more HP or are just an amateur boy racer type, very cheap to modify and reasonable power output at reasonable cost. But for anyone serious about building a FORD the only way to go is with a Windsor,Big HP is obtainable and most importantly they will REV in big HP applications, unlike Clevelands, that will self destruct. You don't find professional Drag guys in the U.S. that run FORD equipment using Clevelands
you dont find many using windsors either. unless you class a svo, fontana or dart, or other aftermarket block, a windsor. most pro class drag race engines are built from a catalog, and dont include any original parts. all aftermarket, whether ford, chrysler or chev.
btw, the stock stroke 351 clevo in my brothers capri makes peak power at 8000rpm, and crosses the line at calder at 8500rpm. until recently it was standard 2 bolt mains, not even line bored. we have never had a rev related problem with it.
