I don't think anyone is questioning that you can drive a standard disco or RRC on-road or on easy tracks with 29" tyres and light loads without breaking anything.
But if your definition of driving a vehicle "knowingly" means not driving steep grippy hill offroad where you need 1st or 2nd low then that is something else...

The gear you choose makes no difference Ben. There's not enough traction offroad or even on-road with 29" tyres to break stock axles without shock-loading them. Driving them knowingly means avoiding shock-loads as best you can. Steep grippy hills aren't a problem.
