I have a 85 RJ70 Bundy. Black with chrome rims, 33" ProComp X-Terrains, 22r pos motor with extractors, electric windows and sunroof, a/c, power steering, cd, uhf, 2" lift, taken the flares off, pulled back seats out for sub and extra space, just about to mount an air tank and compressor, also got custom stainless snorkel. Want to do engine conversion

You drag up such an old thread

Anyway, I have an LJ70 just converting from 2LT over to 1KZ. Should be all done in a month or so.

I considered alot of engines. In the end it was a toss up between 13BT and 1KZ. I decided on the 1kZ cos its lighter and a much newer engine. Hope I made the right choice.

i have an Rj70 it had a 2" suspension and 2" body lift ran 31s round town and local bush, 33s in comps and tried 35s to see if they fitted....they did and no scrub on turning....

had a 22r with G52 box, custom stainless snorkle and a bit of pannel damage..

now its stripped and getting a overhaul...uprade and comp spec...

Yep I thought about the lexus engine, but thought it would be rather gutless. Besides the 1KZ/13Bt has almost the same torque as the lexus.

Body chop? You mean make the rear into a ute/tray style?

I would not go 80's axles. If ever there was anything to consider would go straight for portal axles.

the 1uz should be fine with the reduction gears and yep body chop into 2 seater and the 80s will be stronger and wider then the standard diffs cant afford portals just yet....

What extra width will 80's diffs actually give?

better stability as it will be lifted enough to make a difference...

Fair comment, but I could put offset rims and wheel spacers on. That would give better stability.

ill be having offset rims aswell but having enough height to flex 42s i will need as much width as i can get..to keep it stable and comfortable...

Once you add lockers unless you weld them ....and diff centres as I read in another 1 of your posts ...the MOGS will be way cheaper for the pair .......

MY front 60 series diff with new ARB new bearings through out ...4.8's / 30 spline chromo Cv's and axles ..plus chromo(EDIT CHROMO DRIVE FLANGES  ) hub gears ......comes out to above 3K ....you can get a set of mogs for 3k ( from what Ive seen) with factory lockers etc

I would consider re cosidering what your getting SAM to install

Your absolutely correct. Even with my standard 8" diffs, once I have coughed up for 2 ARB lockers and longfields its fast approaching the same cost as mogs. Fast ratio with lockers 5-6k or cheaper.

I would have missed the 80's conversion out and gone for the mogs. Well the guy says he does not have the cash and its understandable. I too am doing an engine upgrade right now. No spare cash for any 80's or Mogs, but I am quite happy with my standard 8"ers.....for the moment anyhow.

This is mine now and its had a few changes these include:

1UZ, 35" STTs, Cargo removed, Dual Batts, 170 LFs and a few other bits

O and the 1UZ is far from Gutless  and with the 35s and gearing its great on and offroad.
