why would the timing have changed??? did you have the belt off? - if you did you should have marked both crank and cam and the belt at each point

No need to take it off unless you were fitting a new one (or changing the water pump?)

provided you didnt turn the engine over backwards, it should be all fine. turning it backwards can make the belt skip a tooth or worse.

well the engine is back in. everything is hooked up except i haven't added the new power steering yet. I started her up and she sounds good.....

Haven't gone for drive yet as i've still got some work to do. The new sound system is working fine and i've got a few new gauges to add to the dash.

The timing seems fine too (guess i was lucky).

I'm off in adelaide for work for a week so nothing else will be getting done until next weekend.

Thanx for everyones help to get me this far. I was saying today that if someone was to tell me 12 months ago when i brought my fez, that i would have taken the engine out i would have laughed my head off.

Now the real tester will be over the next few weeks to see how everything holds together.

the first time doin an engine in a feroza is a real prick.

it gets easier once ya have done it a couple of times.

i did the engine 3 times in my old roza. ended up putting its original engine back in it (with a minor rebuild) just b4 i sold it.

now its time to break something else

well done! keep us posted as to what happens and your results. glad to hear you didnt have any major dramas. your lucky mate. i didnt have the slightest clue what i was doing when i did mine. took me 2 and a half months to do it...

Well i've just finished doing a 10km test drive and thought i would post my results. Fistly here's exactly what was done over the last two months.

All 3 engine mounts were replaced with seatbelt mod.
Front and rear drive shaft oil seals replaced.
Sump seals replaced and gasket goo applied.
Six inch round speakers fitted to front doors.
6 x 9 Sony Explod speaker fitted to rear panels.
Sony Explod MP3 CD Head unit fitted.
UHF is now running through one of the old front stereo speakers (works a treat and puts out good clear sound).
Fuel Injectors were cleaned and tank cleaned out and filter replaced.
Main engine oil seal replaced whilst engine was out.
Still in process of wiring new voltmeter gauge.
Power steering unit added. (never had power steering before) Still waiting for part to fit the ilder hoses and I am trying to track down a leak in one of the oil hoses.

I am now in the process of fitting an amplifier and a 10 inch sub. I am fitting it all so it's easily removable for camping and shooting trips. After that is complete i will be making up a fold down shelf off the inside back door so a 2 burner gas stove can be placed on it whilst out camping. I am also working on a dual battery setup for the near future. Once all this is done i will be starting to work on turning a box trailer into a camping setup for doing some long distance touring.

Now for lessons learnt:

* Never allow a mate to use a rattle gun to do a bolt up onto the engine block. (it snapped off and i wasted a day trying to get it out)
* Father in laws always talk like they know everything, but are never seen when it comes to needing a hand.
* A wife really does love you when you borrow her car for 2 months and she only complains twice.
* Even crap mechanics are useful for borrowing tools from.
* There is such a thing as "mechanics hands"
* If in doubt, drink more beer and then make the decision.
And finally, the more you do by yourself, the greater the feeling of satisfaction once it's done.
