DR Frankenstine wrote:Ok lets get a central location or a couple of them with our own plan.(A sensible one).
Place it in a few locations around the state and get signatures.
I can organise 2 places in moonah and 1 in hobart and maybe two in launceston and 1 in devonport
Word of mouth should do the trick but it wouldn't hurt to advertise in the local papers.
I'll personally pay for 1 add.
C'mon someone good with this sort of stuff get something drawn up.
Peter
Good work Peter. With an attitude like this you should get far with it!
This was our response to one of the questions put forwasrd in the Bunyip Recreation Draft.
15.	Do you believe other tracks should be opened for use by four wheel drivers and if so, on what basis should this be done?
Yes we do believe other tracks should be opened where it is sustainable and noise impact by trail bikes isn’t increased. This will ensure that a full range of experiences remains available to 4wders and will help maintain a large area which will help distribute the impact of other track closures.

				Hi again all
I just sent this off to all the above addreses. Probably needs refining but anyway what do you think.
To whom it may concern.
I am writing this letter to express my grave fears that access to Southport lagoon, lapreena track and the spit area will be unfairly taken away from the hard core four wheel driver.
WHY ?? this is my question.
I understand the concern of environmental damage and subsequent silting of the lagoon but there is no proof of silting or fauna damage that I have heard of. I fish Southport lagoon whenever I go in there offroading, and have done for years, it is still today one of the best estuary fishing spots in Tasmania. Yes I agree that it is a mess at times with mud and track widening, However when the tracks get to damaged for a vehicle to access the wild growing grasses soon take over. If you were to walk anywhere off the muddy (more often dusty in summer) tracks you would see well grown over old tracks. The satellite pictures of the area show a well formed set of tracks into the area and you must admit the farming and logging close by look way worse from the air.
I can see that if Southport is stolen from us hard core offroaders,we will be forced to go somewhere else and end up making that a mess. We are tax payers as well and deserve the right to have an area like Southport lagoon to off road in. As the Greens deserve the right to have parcels of land saved from logging or farmers have the right to clear land or bush walkers to have walking tracks or hydro to build dams (don't they look ugly with no water in them).
Southport lagoon area is no good for bushwalking, no good for running cattle, no good for growing trees and you certainly can't dam it so let us have a damn hard off road track with great camping and great views when you finally get there.
On a final note another thing to consider is the financial damage that will be caused to places like the township of Dover, Southport and Huonville. All these towns would have money spent at them whenever someone goes offroading into Southport. You will generally need fuel and food when coming out from a weekend away.
Please consider these points when making your decision

Yours sincerely

Peter Booth

Dude it has to be worded a bit better than that it looks impressive but your use of words is incorrect.
But im in not way picking on you it’s just if we are going to do this it has to be right so as not to be laughed at and thrown in the bin with the rest of the aggressive letters.
And we will need more than one letter to send in.
It’s always good to have two blanket letters to fill there email boxes up with even more if Everone is able to

Well get a letter happening then!! I think e-mails isn't the answer we need written signatures to drop on her desk. If someone with better letter writing skills than me can put something together for a petition. E-mail it to me and i'll Get it passed around the state for signing. I'll get 1000 signatures in the first two weeks.

Good your having a go but
Bushytas how would you feel about digging up a standard sort of petition as

Email:
Dear Minister
In regards to the preposed closure of the Southport Lagoon recreational area accessed by AVT and four wheel drive owners at Southport Lagoon we would like to express our concerns.
We believe that the closure of the Lagoon is unnecessary and have concerns that a decision was made to close the area with no consideration and little consultation given to clubs or individual users in this matter. The opportunity to raise our concerns in a public forum would be appreciated and address mutual issues would be an advantage.
We believe that the Southport Lagoon recreational area should stay open to all users during the allocated times of use stated by parks and wildlife and that it is necessary for us to raise public awareness of responsible use, care and clean up of the area, which will pose an advantage to recreational users and parks and wildlife management.
Yours sincerely

Make sure you let everyone know where abouts the petition can be signed. I'll be heading out to kings way tomorrow sometime anyway, so I'll definitely make a stop to sign.
Nice work putting this all together fellas, doing this sort of thing really gets peoples attention, and to have them know that there are people who care about the closure of Southport. If the local council or who evers decision it is thinks you know, whos gonna care, then they will close it without question. But when there is an angry mob of people who are protesting about the closure, they can't go ahead with it.
