i wouldnt go the big block, if your stuck on a chev ls2 or l76 both cheap brand new reliable motors, weight isnt a huge issue but to go alloy heads and intake your looking at 4-5 grand for some decent complete edelbrocks or something,(a complete l76 with all acc is around 6) but if i could do my conversion again it would be a xr6 turbo motor and c4, reliable light small and 300kw at the wheels with over 100nm of torque at the wheels no worries, i got a 304 in mine at the moment and wouldnt want a engine that is phisically much bigger,
so i building a forged roller cammed 355 that should do 470-500hp

Thanks for the replies people. I've got the motor, thats not an issue, but am still tossing it up a bit, am in no hurry anyway.

As for moving the motor back, thats not an option. I want to be able to run stock drive shafts, so if I kill one I can find another stocker and bang it in no matter where we are, I've seen someone brought undone by this before.

Have done a bit of research along with the help you've all given me and to be honest I like the wank factor of the big block, along with that this motor has had a bit of work done to it already so it goes pretty hard.

One question though, whats peoples thoughts on the stock 5 speed manual handling the big block? and what clutch to go with it?

Hey Beretta! FYI I finally got my auto serviced by J&J Performance after speaking with Steve from BMS Autos. He said that the box itself can take up to 1300hp!! - the converter is the only weak link.....so I'm guessing that your old 5 speed should definitely be able to handle the power. But if your going to all the effort of the conversion, IMO I'd go the auto option even though that involves even more work.

Shouldn't that be after july :D Clutch will be easy. depends on what flywheel is used from the conversion kit.

Clutch industries safari clutch would be more than enough for that engine, and still function like a clutch, not a switch.

The gearbox, if in good condition will be more than enough for that engine.
