Landcruiser will be the flagship of Australia for good, if this hunk of shit arives. :x

Cruisers aren't all there made to be these days, the 70's have a front axle thats too wide, because toyota rekons the old axle cant support a V8, the diesel V8 has a healthy habbit of drinking its oil till theres none left, (toyota claims that they have fixed it)

the best part the 70 and the 200 are just plain ulgy,
and nissan gave toyota the flag the day the 4.2 was discontinued

nissan hopefully realise that small motors and 2.5 tonne of metal dont mix, but its nissan the day renault bought it the french have made our best machinery go the way of the dinosaurs EXTINCTION

cheers all

:x Someone please tell me nissan is not serious about bringing out this new patrol, Seen pictures for the first time the other day, what a joke. I own a gq and a gu . nissan have built tough trucks since the start of the gq since when like 1988 or something then the gu was great especially the 4.2td, unbreakable, although alot of one eyed toyota wankers would not agree, but i'm disappointed in nissan with this new model, Ifs well this has been coming for a while :( but what the hell have the designers done, interior , exterior, jesus, what do they have the designers from ford working for them, can anyone picture this new patrol in the aussie outback?? i sure cant. maybe as another bloke said it might look better with some aftermarket gear on it,flares-bull bar snorkle etc but i just cant see it happening, I love the gqs and absolutely love the gus. have owned 4 patrols now and this new one would of been the fifth but unfortunitly the gu will be the last,,,,, i dare say hold on to your gus i think they will hold there value for quite a while, anyone have any info about these new granny patrols????cheers

They are a given, the market for harder 4wds is long gone.

Cars in general are going to shit these days, nothing seems designed to last anymore in this "throw away" society. You would think when they crap on about sustainability and resources, and better technology that they could make cars last longer.

Yep, just read this on the UAE press release:
Another crucial part of handling equation comes from the new suspension system, which now employs 4-wheel independent suspension, upgraded from the previous rigid axle setup. Nissan has completely redesigned the vehicle's suspension from the bushes to the links. The combination of HBMC and the new suspension system with its longer suspension stroke delivers significantly improved handling and stability on both on- and off-road terrain.

It was always going to go IFS. I'm surprised they went independant all round though.

Nissan need to do what Toyota have done and have two patrols like the 70 series and 200 series.

Have i missed it, or has there been no official mention of a diesel engine? I know about the Pug derived V6 turbo diesel, but didn't see anything in the pages i flicked through tonight.

Regardless of the loss of solid axles, it will be interesting to see what the crazy guys over in the UAE will do with these new trucks.

the mums taxi market is 20000 times bigger than that of "live axles", which do you think the marketing department was going to aim at?

As Bruce, has put it are you really surprised what the new patrol looks like?

The market for hardcore off road wouldn't have even been considered, the fleet and the mum taxi market would have been considered first as long as the patrol meets and exceeds there demands they need to be profitable, if they were targeting the hardcore market with diff locks ifs, and trim to suit off road Nissan would be out of business or the patrol line would be dropped all together.

Plus realistically not many people can afford a 60 - 70k these days spend another 20 or so k in basic upgrades, from bar work to winch, draws then go away and use it like it should in the bush.

The percentage of the people that can do the above a few and far between, hence you see so many people modifying gq's and older gu's.

Plus dont knock off a model untill its tested just because it looks soft doesnt mean it is, the evolution in engineering is amazing these days and we may possible surprised what the new model is capable as engineers do start to think outside the box however i maybe wrong lets just wait and see.

This is from carpoint.
The new Patrol may not be warmly embraced by its traditional demographic (who will moan ad nauseam about its independent suspension and softened-up styling), but these few will still be able to buy the trusty Y61 (read GU) model, which will remain in production for the foreseeable future.
Maybe the GU will get new engines...

And what about the utes?? They wouldn't have 4 wheel independant on that would they... Chop anyone?

Go Yarno, but yeah GU will remain in production for a few more years, be interesting to see the V6 diesel in the GU.

I dont look at things with one eye, but I'm a very big patrol fan after owning 3 patrols now currently own 2 at the moment that are modified I personally think they are some of the toughest vehicles on the road worldwide, . I'm not a fan of ifs or 100% happy with the looks of the new patrol but with the new engines coming out and all the features these new models have I believe nissan will have other manufactures shaking in the boots as well as toyota. I'd be interested in seeing a ute version when they come, and would like to see these new models with a bullbar and other 4wd accessories. I think nissan have done a good job with the new patrol and I can see quite a few of these being sold, especially if the power figures that I have read about are actually true,. these patrols will grow on us , and maybe the ifs might to one day :) my opinion, cheers
