Just a word of warning. The cops LOVE to sit in the service road in Nilma just as you turn right onto Bloomfield Road off the freeway. They are well hidden and will grab you if you go over the 60k speed limit there - it's a long one.

Thanks for the warning, just hope they dont decide to do random rwc checks as it could be a busy weekend for them!

Here's the web site for the Ateco:

http://www.awwc.org.au/

Also here are some written directions as posted earlier:

Coming from Melbourne, take Princes Hwy, pass the exits to Warragul, and take the exit to Nilma. Turn left, and then turn right on to Bloomfield Road. Follow Bloomfield Road for approximately 7-10 minutes to find Old Sale Road on the right at the crest of a hill. Follow Old Sale Road for about 10-15 minutes. Look on your left for the Bindarree sign on a white fence.

Cheers, Shane.

Friday's stages were fast!!

Didn't see stage 1 but have been told that it was a slipperey down hill run into a gully, few holes to avoid, then a hill climb to the end.

Stage 2 was a long stage begining with a fast downhill run into a small creek with another fast hill climb to a sharp hairpin corner leading down to another creek crossing with a rutted exit and a rutted hill climb to the finnish.

Stage 3 was almost a rally stage, speeds of 80kmh along the straights!

Stage 3 took out a compeditor very quickly, a yellow rangie t-boned a tree. Cannot remember the compeditors names but no one injured. Feel sorry for the compeditor as they are out of the event after running for only 30 seconds on their first stage.

That was the only major carnage from the night I heard off.

The compeditors got to inspect the stages on Friday so they could prepair for the stages. This was a new tactic which many seemed to appreciate.

Will have to see what today brings.

The rutted creek exit on ss2 was interesting.

The first group (10 vehicles) mostly cleared the ruts. The first half of the second group had trouble as they high centred on the diffs. Then Darfty cleared the ruts  and cleared away all the shit on the track, then the rest cleared it easily.

It was about a 2.5 hour waite for the 3rd group, who had trouble again. The only way some managed to clear them was to charge at full noise from around a blind corner.

This is where the pre-driving of the tracks assisted the teams. The ones who realy studdied the tracks and took notes now when to charge before the got into trouble.

It was interesting to watch the track conditions change soo much. It shows how luck of the draw can affect your times in these events.

SS 7 claimed 3 front diffs (one was a front uni - two were diffs) Tough section with 3 trucks DNF'ing at over 15 minutes for the section. One competitor (birdy) drove it in just over 3 minutes.... :?
Tommorrows sections will be awesome to watch. It's muddy so bring old shoes. allow 50 minutes to Nilma turnoff and another 30 minutes to the venue. The turnoffs are all signposted with Ateco signs.
Gates open 0730.
Zac - get here by 0630 in your road car and I will drive U in. I have to be on-site by 0715.

got there early, action and food started pretty late, (thanks to locky for scoring me a egg and bacon sandwich!) action was pretty good, if not a little slow. maybe not set up with the spectator in mind. still a good day!

Top day...
I will try and get some pics of it soon!

Was very slow at stages as there was a fair bit of screwing around, but was worth it!
Some of those hills were unreal! Would have been great to try to drive!

Did't see too many breakages, but heaps of damage, especially from one of the rangie utes who carreered into a tree (twice  )
