a coil not working in a car is because the person selling them put the wrong coil in the wrong car, its not the coils fault, it is what it is when you buy it. Its where you put it that determines if it works.
That doesnt mean your manufacturer shouldnt make them.
The biggest problem we found with the same wire dia all the way from Dobinsons was sag, and when we discussed it with them, they responded by saying "yeah, those oils are going to be so much trouble, long term"
Thats when we changed design, to overcome the issue those coils had.
Totally agree, I was selling coils that were too soft. The manufacturer was not at fault.
Unless you get your flexy coils from Assassin Offroad or Suspension Stuff then your flexy coils are too soft in my opinion.
Other retailers are still selling these too soft flexy coils giving all flexy coils a bad name for not being able to carry load and too soft on side slopes. I am pretty sure that they are Assassin's old coils that you don't use any more.

Its a worry when someone in your position makes a statement that is so clearly false.
I know its probably just worded incorrectly, but people on this forum can tend to take advice quite literally, especially from someone in the trade.
To elaborate on this further, I agree with Shane. If you have more down travel (ie really long shocks) then the fitment of bumpstops can also help with traction.
The bump stop simply acts as a pivot point for the diff on the full compression side, thus creating a fulcrum effect that can actually transfer more downward pressure to the side with all the droop.
Ofcourse the pressure might be very minimal compared to the pressure excerted by the compressed spring but it can make a difference.
I hope that made sense cause as usual, I don't think it did.
[/quote
So why don't you go and extend your bumpstops by 150mm
Mate that made perfect sense because i did know that, and funnily enough, i remember trying to word it correctly myself when explaining it to someone on outers a while back.
The thing is you don't want to limit travel, so let the axle pivot around the bumpstop "when it gets there"

The spring under lots of compression does that too

Firstly, if you hit something too hard or too quickly they compress too quickly and the front end smashes up into the bump stops.
Secondly, the back end sags too much when towing.
Thirdly, if you get the heavier duty coils, they raise the truck too high - over 4 inches.
And last, they sag over an inch after only 6 months.

G'Day, Shane from Suspension Stuff here.
I have recently re designed the 3" lift flexy coils. The normal duty rear flexy coils use to be made out of 19mm wire. I now get them made out of 20mm wire so they should take the load much better then the old designs. (21mm wire for the extra heavy duty coil). I also have designed these coils to be a little softer because I wanted these coils to suit a 750mm shock.
Suspension Stuff Flexy coils do have a 12 month warranty against sag even for a 6" lift. So if you don't like them we can swap them over for a linear coil. Call me 1300 048 991. I will increase the warranty length when I start my own branding.
As for smashing on the bump stops, probably not, you were most probably smashing onto the shocks unless you had modified your bump stops. It is the same deal for normal 3" lift shocks. I actually do not have flexy coils for the front but I do offer a softer coil for those who want them but not something I really recommend, so if you are hitting up front it may not be the coils. What shocks do you have?
If the coil doesn't take as much load it is not because it is a flexy coil but because of the design modifications I have done with the coil. The flexy part of the coil is just about fully closed together so don't take much part in day to day driving. The coil can carry as much load as a linear coil and will drop the same given the same loads put onto the coil.
To suggest to not get flexy coils but to get Tough Dogs or Kings is a silly statement if you know how many sag issues their coils have. If you don't want flexy coils get the usual linear Dobinsons coils. Dobinsons do have a better manufacturing proces for coils.

Yes I am very sorry for leading you astray. All the signs were positive and feedback was really great for the first few months.
Most will be ok as long as you don't try and adjust the adjuster. Also a big problem is most people don't bother setting up their bump stops to suit and these shocks cannot handle being over compressed. Please check that your ends haven't worked loose especially on the rear at the top.

If you tell me your first and last name I can look up your order and see the part number, I can then ask you to measure the coil diameter of your front coils but I am pretty confident you would have the wrong coils. If you have a winch you should have C70-254V.
Hi shane i just pm'd you my name to look up my order
Yep you have the wrong coils. For some reason I had them the wrong way around on my computer. I have 1 set on the shelf so to be safe come and pick them up in the morning.
Shane
Ican call around tomorrow arfternoon about 2:30 2:45 to swap these over if thats all good.

got 4 inch front and 5 inch xhd flexi dobs rear with boss shocks cant complain. best set up ive had. I have a heavy duty steel tray and steel canopy and under hard accell around corners the rear flexis unload and the front inner wheel can lift a foot off the ground thats their only fault or is it my driving haha ? in a shorty or wagon they would be sweet. keep the adjusters clean/WD sprayed on the bosses. Shane at suspension stuff NOWS HIS STUFF give him a call !!

Hi
Wanna rebuild my MK for coils
I think 2'' lift flexy may be good choice - but these is a custon setup - so the spring lenght on load is not so important (they can be 3'' or 4'' etc)
There are lots of different springs available - but I don't know GQ regular axle load to calculate with springs I need (regular - heavy duty - extra heavy etc.)
I have not measured total weight of my Patrol - but front and rear axle load is around 1200 kg (it's with axles and leafs and 33'' tires)
And one more thing = I live in Europe - so I don't wanna order springs direct from Australia - There is Dobinson's dealer in nearest country (250 km) - If I know Dobinson's product code I can drive there and just buy them

Dobinsons manufacture the coils but they don't have off the shelf 2" flexy coils. Suspension Stuff has exclusive flexy coils and I don't know what Assassin does but their part numbers are exclusive to the group they belong to so it is a big ask to get the setup right the first time on an MK.
It is far easier to get linear coils made up because of the computer programs available. As long as you give them enough parameters they can get it right first time.
Start with what you want the length of the coil to be at ride height, you have the weights of your vehicle, they will or should want to know if you want a soft, normal ride or like it to corner like it is on rails. They may ask what free height you are aiming for.

Like I said earlier - coil length is not important really - I can weld upper coil end wherever

See if they have C45-304 or C45-308 for the front. These are softer coils which would be more suitable if your vehicle is lighter then the GQ.
Dobinsons may supply C45-270 (A 4" lift coil) but they won't have them in stock in your neighbouring country. These coils are usually too soft for a GQ Patrol and may sag but if you are lighter they may work well The rear eqivalent is C45-271.
