How are we supposed to fight it when 4WDers don't care and against big modifications.
The admin of Pradopoint said he wasn't concerned with these changes. I pointed out that he should be concerned and so should many other members as it doesn't just effect big trucks. Even his own 40mm lifted Prado and 1" larger then standard tyres would be deemed illegal under these new laws.
I just got banned for pointing this out and being a "clown".

nearly all of what u have written above is incorrect.
Trim height variance is based on the standard vehicle and how much it changes..........nothing to do with how tall they are from original.
Variable airbag setups are illegal also if you READ the document.
Drop axles are also illegal in the new document (stub axles mentioned)
And stating that lowering a car gives better handling isnt always correct.
a car lowered a few inches maybe, another lowered 6inches def not, unless the whole suspension geometry has been changed to suit.
And....nowhere does it state you need 15cm clearance to the ground.
They still base it on 100mm.
As said, i think some people need to actually read before they post.
And as for the fine.....it can be up to $7700 for driving an uninsured vehicle....as thats what they say in the paper if driving an unapproved vehicle.
The doc doesn't say this at all. Infact it specifies the limitations on the variability of the suspension.

Wheres the info on this?
Without some background to that statement its meaningless.
If you are driving a lifted vehicle with no certs, your car could be defected, I dont beleive there is a fine for driving defective vehicle, though you can be fined if you dont present the car to be inspected once its defected.
At worst you could possibly, though I think unlikely, be booked for driving unreg and uninsured, which is $506 fine for each

a quote from Blacktown local rag:
Cars which are not approved will not be able to pass their rego and motorists could face fines of up to $7700 for driving an uninsured vehicle.
I guess they are stating the worst case scenario of some idiot driving a vehicle now unregistered because its not legal and now uninsured also.

I used to think we had it tough in QLD! Now I can appreciate what we have:
-no yearly inspections for rego
-no references to mods on rego papers
-no need for engineering paperwork once blue plate is fitted
-CTP insurance premiums which are a fraction of those charged in NSW and dont vary with postcode
-still plenty of engineers who will approve major mods/issue a blue plate for a fee of $50-$150

So really they are saying that car manufactures are trying to kill us! If you look at all the 2wd to 4wd variants (say Rodeo) that have the same body on them, as the bulletin says any trim height change more than 50mm will adversely affect handling and crumple zones. I don't think so, the whole think is a worthless load of crap and needs to be scrapped.

I can answer that one.. No rego was introduced for liability reasons that could have impacted heavily on a potential insurance claim if there was to be one.

Well, this song sums up my current mood
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wos-dDxpJlQ
Just got this from the National Party
National Party wrote:
The NSW Labor Government’s recent policy announcement to make it an offence to lower or raise a car’s suspension was clearly made on the run.
The NSW Liberals and Nationals oppose these changes, which have been introduced by the Rees Labor Government without consultation or any parliamentary debate.
The changes will affect many law abiding motorists, including 4WD users, rural motorists and even wheelchair taxis, yet they will do nothing to stop the so-called hoons, who already modify their vehicles outside the existing laws.
The vast majority of 4WD owners are responsible drivers, not 'young hoons', and they don't deserve to be punished.
The solution to 'hoons' is better enforcement of the existing vehicle standards, not a nonsensical bureaucratic decree.
The NSW Liberals and Nationals have called upon the Roads Minister to withdraw the policy forthwith and will continue to pursue this issue on behalf of NSW motorists when Parliament resumes in September.

I haven't presented one yet, I had booked an appointment for Monday where I planned to present several hundred letters that have been thus far presented to me in addition to a petition. I got a phone call this morning telling me of the National Parties stance and would I still like to have the appointment, and got the Email as a follow up.

Sec 8 (1) Use uninsured motor vehicle $506

Edit: if you have to go to court maximum fines are up to $2200 unregoed, and $5500 uninsured.
I would imagine this would be an extreme case, like a repeat, habitual offender.

Out of curiosity, Where is the height measured to determine how much lift you have?
What i mean is, if an officer were to pull out his tape measure, and check that you arent raised too high, how would/should he go about it??>

VSI50:
http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/ ... y-2009.pdf
Vehicles intended to be registered for use on roads or road related areas in NSW may be raised to a
maximum height of 50 mm above the original trim height as established by the vehicle's manufacturer
(see Figure 1).
Vehicles raised more than 50 mm above the original trim height as established by the vehicle's
manufacturer (see Figure 1) will only be conditionally registered in NSW and will have restricted access
to roads and road related areas.
They define trim height as the top of your wheel arches. How it is going to be enforced, I have no idea. I highly doubt they have the OE trim height of an 83 LWB Sierra.
They are also yet to define this conditional rego AFAIK.

I just hope common sense wins this battle.
Typical political stunt.
During a time of recession they decide to make a law forcing a whole bunch of tax paying citizens out of a job in the 4wd and car mod industry.
What a bunch of retards.
The pollys get driven around in V8 holdens with over 200kw and a top speed of 250kph?! Hit the car companies producing those cars!
How can they say that raising a car a putting bigger rubber on it will cause people to drive like a hoon when increasing tyre size robs your power?! I am yet to see a modified 4wd rapped around a pole after losing control at 250...

in england we have had many anti 4x4 laws, problem is everyone just shouts about it, then starts arguing amongst themselves, whats needed is an organised and coodinated protest. im in the process of moving to nsw, bringing my lifted 4x4 with me. ive been in constant comunication with nsw rta regarding my plans, found out about it on here. about a week before they even gave me a list of test centres who would approve the modifications, nice. this has cost me thousands already and the cars not even in australia!

so a possible loophole may be to "lower" the wheel arch?
such as modifying flares to sit very low, on 80 series for example?
or that ugly vitara with major virtual lift?

On reading that again, i believe trim height is different for different manufacturers.
i think some use headlight heights, holden rodeo springs to mind??
