To most of us, no it doesnt matter what you are.
As long as you are keen to get this built just as much as we are keen to see it built, then we will continue to help as much as we can.

How have you measured track?

Wheel track is from the centre of one rim to centre of the other rim, or can be measured from inside edge of one rim to outside edge of the other.

Is the Rav4 a 2 door or 4 door?

I'd search for the offical Rav4 spec on the net and use those measurements to compare.

Anyone want to fill in the blanks...

Wheelbase - Rav4 - 4-door: 2,410 mm 2-door: 2,200 mm
Wheelbase - Bundera - 2310mm
Wheelbase - SWB GQ - 2400 mm

Track Front - Rav4 - 1460 mm
Track Front - Bundera - 1415mm
Track Front - SWB GQ - 1530mm

Track Rear - Rav4 - 1465 mm
Track Rear - Bundera - 1400mm
Track Rear - SWB GQ - 1535m

Length - Rav4 - 1994–1997 2-door: 3,740 mm ,4-door: 4,150 mm
Length - Bundera - 3790mm
Length - SWB GQ - 4230 mm

Width - Rav4 - 1695 mm
Width - Bundera - 1690mm
Width - SWB GQ - 1930 mm

Height - Rav4 - who cares :)
Height - Bundera - 1880mm
Height - SWB GQ - as high as u want :)

although the track width is smaller on the bundy the offset of the wheels on a bundy is much wider so i would say outside of tyre to outside of tyre would be very very similar with say 31 inch tyres
now it just boils down to if you have a 4 or 2 door

if a 2 door it would be ok and have the wheels about 50mm closer to each end of the car
if a 4door the wheel base is closer to the nissan but still longer than the nissan

ideally when building a truck like this u want o move the wheels slighty to each end to clear the doors
when running big tyres(cause you can cut the guards biut not the doors)
the width of the patrol diff will make them stick out a long way due to the offset on patrol wheels which is fine if you want a big wide heavy truck

if you break it down
patrol chasis -
patrol diffs
patrol gearbox
ls1
+ rav body

it will just be a nissan patrol shorty with an ls1 and will be much heavier than say and less nimble use more fuel etc than

bundy chasis
hilux diffs :D
r150 gearbox
either 1UZ or 3sgte
+ rav body

so really do u want a light truck or do u just wanta gq patrol

i still think the front overhang off the nissan will be too great for the rav and the gearbox and diffs are huge

if you have a 4 dr both chassis r too short
if you are going down the lengthen path you could add 200 mm to the bundy chassis then you would have a great fit for wheel width wheelbase and front and rear over hang plus a lighter set of running gear

anyone who cares that you're a chick is pretty narrow minded and ignorant, therefore their opinion doesn't count. F@#K em!

When I read your first post I was like, "this person has gotta be having a lend of us all. Pull the other one." Then I kept reading, realised you were serious, saw someone has done similar before and upon reading the rest of this, it actually looks really doable.

I would definitely vote for GQ SWB chassis, parts availability and relatively cheap at that, more stable and stronger diffs.
Engine, I think that you've overlooked the SR20DET. I have an S13 amongst my collection of toys that I wasted heaps of time and money on, but the SR20 is so cheap to get rediculous ammounts of power out of, and their are plenty of auto boxes available, very cheap because all the drift boys are ditching them. The engine is light enough for a few guys to lift in and out (done that), mine makes just over 300kw at the wheels but is fairly modified. 200 is easy on a standard engine with BB turbo, intercooler, computer and fuel mods. Buy the later model and you get variable cam timing as well.

Makes sense if you're on a tightish budget too as they are cheap from wrecks or import from japan, spare parts and aftermarket goodies are everywhere and cheap, plus it's small enough to fit easy with room for other bits and pieces.

Anyway, just another thing for you to consider. Oh and might I mention that my S13 get's under 10L/100km on the highway. Up to 13-14 round town but that was driving it, not pansy footing around. If I really upped it though, mine really chewed it, that's because of the mods I've done, when it was more standard, you could flog it all day at the track and drive home without refueling.
And you only pay 4cyl rego. Believe me, it adds up to a big saving. Over a year, my XR8 costs me easily 4-5grand more to run and rego.

hey i dont wanna be a downer but......
do u think an sr20 off boost will have enough grunt to push a gq
patrol around and turn the diffs and transfers

how do adapt an sr20 auto to a patrol transfercase

fuel enconomy is more a product of vehicle weight and wind resistance than the engine alone which a patrol/rav has not much in common with an s13

if you were going to run and sr you would want to run the lightest chassis and running gear available

sorry i dont like to be negative

No, track width includes any offset in the measurement.

It is measured from the centreline of one rim to the centreline of the other, so if you have lots of negative offset, and your rims are pushed outwards, this is measured by track, and included in the factory specs, assuming you are working with factory rim dimensions, which you would/should be working with as a starting point for wheel sizing depending on which chassis you choose.

Track is not the measurement from wheel mounting face to wheel mounting face.

thats correct i am with you on that
but when you run a wider rim than a rav4 rim (ie off road sytle wheel off a bundy or patrol) it pushes the total outside of tire to outside of tire dimension outward making it the right fit for the body

Yes, measurement of total width, from outside tyre one side to outside tyre the other side would be more useful in this sort of situation.

I suppose you could calculate that by adding a single tyre width (half a tyre width outside the track/rim centre line on each side) onto the track width of each chassis you are looking at, to give you a total width including tyres.

hillbilliywheelchair wrote:do you really have to extend the bundy chassis???

you could
but i find when you want a car to be a good streeter its best to leave all the suspension mounting points standard to keep all the angles nice
it would be very easy to lengthen if u do it right in the middle where the rails are straight ( or easier than moving all of that stuff ie panard mountings, steering box etc etc)

does anybody out ther know the wheel base of the imported prado
its a LWB bundy?? it has other issues though
