where are people gettig extended shockies from can't find any anywhere? well no one wants to help me anyway....

this my fist time posting a pic hope it works,

so i have done the 75 springs in front, i didn't mix with the 40 pack, im running a full fiberglass body so i have no weight at all in the front. not as big as some others, but im happy, it has plenty more room to flex but i ran out of tires and shocks are too short

nice work man. good range of movement in your shackles, i'm sure you've got a bit more in there yet. What size tyres are you running there? Interested to see the shackle angle when its resting on the flat.

Notice you're not flexing with shocks, you might find with shocks that your drivers front shock rubs on your relay rod. Some people have spaced out the shock tower or the top of the shock from the tower to clear it.

There was a few more holes in the finished product (which I dont have pics of). one lower that bolted the L plate onto the shock tower and a hole for the shock at the top. There was another shorter plate which sandwiched the shock between. This was enough to stop any rubbing of the steering arm.

thanks for the kind words, im running 33's with 2in extended shackles, yea i kept the shocks out for the moment as i know they are short so i wanted to see how much i could get out of it.
but thats a top tip ill look at this weekend and see how i go

i like your idea, i might have to quiz you on this a bit more?
i haven't had a chance to drive it yet as I still don't have a licence so i can't really tell if it's too soft,

but time will tell i guess,

you get them from anywhere that sells shocks. First measure your extended and collapsed lengths and then go to wherever you wish to buy shocks from and compare their catalogue until you find some that are the right length.

What springs are the guys with SWB fj40 cruisers using that have the smaller pin bushes?
I have a 71 SWB 40 and a 60 series for spares but the spring bushing sizes are different.
( 60 large to 40 series small )

Do you change the spring hanger mounts or use 55 series springs?

arb sell old man emu bushes that have the pig pin cruiser outside diameter and small pin inside to run the larger eye springs as they only make large eye in the dakar range. so you use these bushes and small pin shakles

Also do they come in rubber or Poly urethane?

Oh by the way, the missus has gone and bought her self a V8 40, not flex pics but bragging rights non the less. I will get her to put up a build thread. I must be the luckiest and poorest man in the world having two v8 cruisers.

Yes i run them with 60's rear springs and 40's front they are poly

Yea the cooks truck is called Mr Juicy hahaha, yea will be bugging a few of you about her suspension, she has an early model and the shackles are near vertical. And if i keep them like that, she will get rid of it before long for being to rough. But I will have her start a build thread as she is doing all her own work on it. She rebuilt her first diff on the weekend..... I am so proud of her

Does the spring hanger have enough clearance for the military wrap on the springs?
More concerned about the fixed pin hangers.

It does rub, if the hanger cracks i will replace it with a big eye one i have on a bj wreck in my yard

Mix and match. Very similar to shorty_forty - because he taught me eveything I know...

Top leaves from 75 in front and 60 in rear. Rest are thinner 40 leaves, mostly OME because that's what I had before. Superior extended shackles. Standard shock mounts. EFS front shocks (prob a bit short), pro comp rear shocks. Man-a-fre u bolt flip kit. Front leaves clamped with two clamps after diff and one in front tight to stop axle wrap (I hit things hard - comp use) Worked really well, had a lot of coiled guys jealous in tough tracks. Absolutley bolt in, no fuss, even carried a load and a trailer without sagging too much. Tyres shown are 33" Simex jungle treckers that measure about 34".

Thanks for the reply. Yours looked a little longer than Andrew's but could just be the camera angle. I'm up for some new springs shortly so just investigating some options. Undecided to go dobinson's which are a bit longer for a better shackle angle or just EFS which are a lot cheaper, take out 1 load leave, and run no swaybars which will probably flex better than the dobinsons but won't ride as nice as dobinsons with swaybars. Swaying towards second option for cost and also currently have EFS and apart from being a bit stiff (which is why I would remove a leaf 2nd time around ) they've been good to me.

So how is the build coming along Rick?

My 2 cents but I thought the flip kits are illegal? I have some sliders which basically tuck the thread under a little sled shaped box so you can slide over stuff. Superior sell flip kits for $65

Here are the plates I was talking about. Basically they make the lower part of the plate the lowest part of the suspension so your u bolt threads and bolts are well tucked. $205 for pair vs u bolt flip $130 a pair

Can't see anyone picking a u bolt flip kit on an old truck as being illegal. Plenty of other things to choose from anyway.

I looked at the superior type. I don't like them. Engineering wise, the ones I have are indestructible. Solid plate and the threads up out of dangers way. Cost $300/pair and I'd pay it again. They are Man-A-Fre from the states, so they may be cheaper now with the dollar being good. There was a guy selling them locally but he was shutting up shop when I bought mine.

Not many blokes tend to worry about these if they are going big as they go spring over. Since I am keeping mine low for stability, they are a must on a SUA.

Did a quick search, looks like the Aussie guy is gorne. Gonna have to go through America. If you want to deal with an Aussie company and not have the headache if importing gear, I would also call Chris from Locktup. They import heaps of gear from the states, he may be able to help you out.
