Hey Matt,

I got you email, I trimmed my inners to about 1/2 inch to the hole for the headlight at the bottoms of the buckets almost back to the body mount (stopping for the double thickness part).

I think with the wider rims more outward and 12.5 wide tyres your gunna have a bigger scrub radius forcing you to loose those inner guards all together.

Well what a day I had yesterday! Got home at 1am only to get up at 7am to go to work this morning!

The good news though that I drove the zook home!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But it handled like crap,
nearly rolls over when I sit in it
and has air holes coz the rubber boots don't fit!

And I love it :D

Still need to clean the guards up (rubs when I turn corners)

The best thing is that it takes the bumps like it's on coils

I still haven't put the gear shift boot back on mine, its a good way to look through and keep an eye on the front diff ;)

Yeah from the look of that slip yoke on the front diff I would image you would want to keep an eye on things.

Would it be wiser to run a spacer?

I was being sarcastic

Mine has been ok, I know Greg shagged one but that would have been through general abuse and lack of maintenance.

How did the rims balance up?? No wobbles??

Yeah the boot pushes it out of second and fourth and low range. How has every one got around this prob?

Yeah I might get a spacer just to save the problem of broken peices

I cut a bigger hole, others have heated/bent the shifters

so how does it go on the road? whats your speedo like?

Posted: Thu Aug 12, 2004 12:08 pm
by DeWsE
It's like a push bike in the middle of a dam

Don't know whats going on with the speedo but it's alot better geared then witht he 29's...would say it's faster now.

Low range is the bomb! So slow and steady, great throttle control

Brakes are sweet

Hey guys, well it looks like I might need to do some fine tuning to the springs. At this stage the rear drivers side spring is just two flexy on compression..or i'm to fat  (going around corners is an experience !) So I need to stiffen it up a little but I don't want to lose the droop. What am I thinking about doing is putting one of the helper leaves in and taking off the clamp, Then I will put some rubber hose (medal cable tied) in between the main leaves and the helper. This should make the helper work alot sooner but should not affect droop a great deal.

What are other ppl's thoughts?

if you put the helper leaf in it will not affect the droop only the compression

a spacer would be a clever idea, or the other alternative (and what i'm running) is a coiler front drive shaft - it's an inch or so longer than the widetrack one. I presume this is because they have a shorter (front to back) x-fer case - and this is also the reason that their jackshaft is a bit longer too :)

Just remove the sticks and bend them to suit with a big hammer and a lenght of pipe. No cutting of floor needed.

I had the same problem. I can't remember you saying how many springs you are running in the back??

I now run a load leaf (the thinner of the 2 from the HD packs) in each rear, it doesn't affect flex (will still tuck a swamper up to the guard) but I am far from light so with the load leaves in (provided you don't park it too sharply) it sits reasonably level, it does still squat to the DS when i'm in it drving though so I have things like the battery and tools moved more to the PS to try and even things up (a little)

Remember also that your zook is probably at a guess too fitty kg heaviey than mine.

Well last night was interesting, I decided to go play on some rocks down the end of my street before I went to my old girls bday. after stuffing around I went out..then went to the tav..(read maybe to many drinks) But as I was leaving I noticed that the front shackle had inversed!!!!!!! So I figured that I would have to fix it so I went back to the rocky area and flexed the car. I then put the jack between the bumps stop and diff and proceeded to jack. Just as I got the shackle to 45 degree the cops pull up behind me (read bad smell from my pants). Well after a few intense questions a look over the car and and squiz at my licence they said have a good night :D.

i had to add two small tabs to stop the shackles from inverting on mine

Posted: Fri Aug 13, 2004 12:05 pm
by DeWsE
Yeah was going to do that tonight. Did you tab the rear ones?

Posted: Fri Aug 13, 2004 12:07 pm
by grimbo
i have a 3/4 eliptic rear so no need to, if I inverted the shackles on them then things have gone majorly pear shaped :D

No mention matt, that the instructions were more usefull absorbing the spilt oil off the floor than they were in helping with the disassembly and assembly of the transfer box.
