 You forgot me
stock 60 series exhaust is 2.25" I think, but it's press bent so the size means nothing. don't remember how much they were brand new, and there was a LOT of variation between early povos, G pack, GXL and Sahara's.

an engine rebuild is usually stripping the motor down, cleaning everything up and putting it back together, with new gaskets and seals. a recondition will involve new bearings, pistons, rings, rebore, and a degree of head work depending on what is necessary. different engine builders use different terminology so don't just ask for a 'rebuild' or 'recondition' - find out what they include in the prices they offer so you can compare. It is rarely much cheaper to do a recondition yourself than to get a shop to do it, since you have to take it to a shop for the machine work anyway.
Thank you sir!

how many different types of sixty series window regs are there?

how do i convert my hj 5 speed to an hzj 5 speed?

why can i pull the 1fzfe out of my 100s and drop it into another without any dramas, yet i need to match numbers on the ecu if i am only swapping the ecu?

whats the differance beteen an hzj78 and an hzj79 rear diff?

a 1kz and a 5L have a different engine fan, one is the same as a 5LE, which one is it, and 2 reasons why?

there is an easy way, looking side on, to tell if a 97-04 hilux d/cab is taiwainese of japanese built. how? if you were to pop the bonnet without looking at the id tags of chassis number, how would you tell?

what is an Ln166?

what is a "drivers spill" and where would i find one in my toyota?

which 95 toyota would i find both an alloy and a plastic airflow meter on?

since you cried at my last questions, cause they were'nt all 4x4 related i tried to make all these 4x4 related. ill be back later with some more.

hope you do better this time :finger: :finger: :finger:

L (2.2 litre) only have one idler pulley so the shape of the covers is different. the shape, and pattern on the outer also varies between 2L/2L-T to late '89, and 2L-T-II, 3L , especially at the head end - the later motors have a taller, narrower head.
where would i find a 3.9 diff center, what trans axle code is it and how would this relate, to same another diff center with the same trans code? what problems could i come accross?
are you asking what models came with a 3.9? are you askking for 8" or 9.#"? some North American spec FJ60's have 3.9's, in Australia I don't know. in 8" also not sure, maybe available in a hiace van or 2WD hilux.

the "trans" part of the trans/axle code relates to (not surprisingly) the TRANSmission so is not applicable to your question.

the ratio part of the axle code for 3.90:1 is "07", which is preceded by a letter - G for 8", J for 9.25", K for 9.5". the ratio code is followed by a number, usually 2,3,4 or 5. 3 and 5 are limited slip, 3 = 2 spider, 5 = 4 spider. 2 and 4 are open diffs with 2 or 4 spiders (although 4 may also be a factory locker, it is easy to tell from looking at the housing). Axle ratio code 31 is for 3.909:1 ratio. Toyota sometimes re-use codes but usually only between modes where there can be no confusion as to what the ratio is since it is not available in two different sizes. I am not aware of a different ratio assigned the '07' or '31' codes but that doesn't mean they aren't out there. sometimes a tooth count is necessary to be 100% sure. most toyota gears also have the ratio stamped onto the outside of the crownwheel.
why want my ln63 surf t-case bolt straight to my ln65 box and the one out of my 97 ifs dual cab is different agiain, all have the same cast alloy housings look the same but on a closer examination are different.
basically because toyota is a bastard and they love nothing more than making the modifier's life a misery.
there would i get a factory 2.8 turbo motor and lh drop t-case to suit?
petrol or diesel? if I needed such things I'd call Nick, he seems to be able to get all sorts of esoteric toyota parts.
i want to bolt a 22r into my 12r rn25, what problems will i come accross, how will i convert the front to disc brake so i can get it engineered?
what problems *won't* you come across? you're on your own, I don't do petrol.
whats the differance between my 100's steering box and my 80?
your 100's steering box is a STEERING BOX, your 80 is a TRUCK
i cannot find any calipers to fit my 06/88-10/88 x-cab hilux 2wd, why is this such a problem, why cannot i bolt on any other hilux calipers, is there away around this?
this is a 4WD forum. sell the . 2WD and buy a 4WD. Toyota will sell you calipers for the right price.
i have a 5L and a 3L head on my garage floor, they are to heavy for me to turn over so i can only see the face. how do i tell the differance?
go to the gym for a few months, you puny weasle.
let me think of some more and i will be back..........that was'nt a question :finger:
ok. ask me some IFS 80 series questions

im giving you 2 outta 8, ill make it 3 just cause the 80 call made me laugh. :finger: :finger: :finger: shame the guy that told me that is now dead, ironically he was knocked of his bike and killed by an 80 series driver   (im positive it was a solid axle model)

mate im replacing the head on my 2h deisel,do you know all the figures for refitting the head...as in how tight to make the head bolts.i know its just as easy to go and buy a land cruiser work shop manual, but i havnt got that convenience till the old girl is back on the road.
im not machanic so if you can help with any other tips that would be super.
also would i need to do anything else to the motor as it is fitted with an after market turbo....what i mean is should i maybe tighten the head bolts a fraction more......i have no idea.

Dear DD,

I have a double cardin joint rear tatilshaft in my Surf to compensate for drive angles as the rear has a 4" suspension lift after the SAS. I have had the rear diff spring and shocks rotated and upper control arms lengthened so there is no un angle at the diff.

I want to know if any model hilux tranfere case output flange will fit the double cardin joint and transfere in my Surf (3 litre auto, chain drive transfere).

Currently the original was cut up and another half of a front output flange was also cut up and the 2 grafted together. My problem is that I am still getting drive line vibes. I believe its because my made up flange is out of balance. I would love an original un modified flange if there is one.

I couldn't redrill new holes in my original as the DC joint holes are wider than the stock tailshaft holes.

Any help appreciated,

Alec

ok dumbdunce... 2f distributers... what changed in what year... i am finding it hard to find theright points and condenser, cap etc.

it's originally a 1976 40, but has a early 80's 60 series 2f in it allegedly, but the cap from the corresponding 80 series doesn't fit (way too big for my dizzy).

the cap supposed to be for the 76 dizzy fits but is looser than a whitehouse intern, the rotor fits and works, but the points are a different size, (mounting holes and the 1976 replacement parts are physically bigger) replacement condenser doesn't work (don't think it earths the same way???)

so basically, do i have a wierd year, or were the replacement parts people drunk when they measured the 1976 dizzy?

sorry blokes I have been away and how I have a stack of work to catch up on, I will try to get to all your questions in the next couple of days (except for Nick cos he's just being a poo :D - I will just make up funnay answers for them)

in the mean time you could start a "stump Nick" thread and ask him questions that (a) are hard (b) the answers have no practical value to anyone except a parts interpreter.

Its the same spot as last time. is there a more solid solution then the rubber/plastic mounts??
and being its busting the same one does this indicate a bigger problem??

Bizalloy is used in machines that are constantly being work down.
i.e., farm machines, diggers, that sort of thing.

They are an extremely high tensile, so therefor it is quite brittle. that would probably explain why its not very practical for suspension components. Perhaps a boilermaker or someone in the know can correct me, but as far as i know thats the 4-11.

DD would a 80s driver seat fit into a 60 driver seat? If so/ not what mods need doing. I think the 80 is a 94 DX Cruiser.

dumbdunce,

Will a power steering box off an 80series fit onto a 60series, i.e. is the bolt pattern the same. If so are the high and low pipes the same fittings or do you need to get them modified.

Will a 80s box give lighter steering than a 60s box.

no and no.

the seat mountings are all different, you would have to custom fabricate brackets for the seat.

the chassis rails are different between 75 and 60, and the shape of the front is so different that even if you did modify a 75 bar to fit a 60, it would be UGLY

Just those not blessed enough to have coils, LOL.

I'm not sure about the very old landcruisers, but in the 40 series there is only two. Maybe the 78/79 series have a still different size yet in the rear?
