Hey Mal,
I could be interested in the Alpine Challenge, will depend on what work I have to do to the truck after this years OBC, I'll keep in touch.
What type of pistons are you waiting on, sounds very interesting.

Hey James, you and your mates from Scotland will be missed this year, especially around the camp fire.
Hope to see you in 2008.

To be honest Laurie, if I'm back it will be as a spectator.

However some good mates are coming over to the XI in September, which I would prefer, purely as it is very like what we do over here anyway. The winching bits of the OBC are the only thing we have in common over here, and the GPS but our fields aren't 20,000 acres, more like 100.

The XI stuff on the other hand is what we do best.

Have you had any experience of the event?

Is it a "them and us" kind of situation?

Hi James
A shame mate you won't be back as a competitor, a long way to come just to spectate. If you did come back in 2008 I'm sure we could get you a job as a navi though.
Re the Internantional Xtreme, I have not competed in this 8 day event, although I did run in the Xtreme Winch Challenge weekend events during 2003 and 2004 and I think he runs a great event, plenty of winching and the odd fast section thrown in.
With regards to the International Xtreme I have only heard good things and that the event is pretty tough but the good thing is it is held in the one area unlike the OBC which as you know is held on many different properties, mind you that is what appeals to me about the OBC.
If you make contact with David Metcalfe the organisor of the Xtreme I am sure he will give you all the info you need, he's not a bad bloke and as I said he runs a good event.
Laurie.

Hey Bingham, most people stay where ever they can get some space. :D You just need to get to know where the pubs are that we all goto. I can't remember what the pubs are called but the one that most competitors goto on the thursday and friday is just down from the main shopping center and Maccas, towards silvertown. I'm sure that someone else can tell you the name. Most probably wont remember though cause the grog flows pretty freely. If not just drop into see the guys at Silver City 4wd and they'll point you in the right direction after they make you have a couple of beers with them haha. Can't wait to get down there and say G'day to everyone again.

Not long to go now!

I'm still planning on heading down so if any other OL members will be there, let it be known and we'll meet up to chew the fat!

Looking forward to the cold weather and even colder rumbos!

Mate, are you taking your bike down there if you decide to still attend? I am thinking about taking the KTM out for a flogging! The only issue is that I was planning on heading back along the Birdsville Track and the trailer may not particularly like that - However, I am led to believe that coaches make their way along the track, so it shouldn't really be a problem for a trailer like this. After all, I'm sure that plenty of people take off-road camper trailers up and down there all the time.

I wonder how the station owners would react to registered bikes? I doubt it would be a problem as in the '99 video, there were a few bikes getting around at the various courses.

Might be worth looking into.

Cheers

Hey Diesel,
I have to come back accross to the coast on my way back up to Townsville. I don't know what truck I'm buying to carry my patrol yet but I'm sure there'll be plenty of space for a bike trailer. Either on the truck or behind it if you like. ;)

Sweet!

You're a champion!

When it gets closer to the date, I will know for sure if it will be making the trip! I just can't wait to get away and get down there for a few weeks!

Does any body know if Norm Walters is defending his title. Hope so. And what about Kym Bolton is he driving his truck this year. I heard Kym Bolton has put the hydrolic aside and is running a highmount also has 300KW out of his diesel. Dont know if that is flywheel or what. Hope to see them both there competing.
