Yeah went the flairs to suit the bigger tyres.
Snorkle is factory but yes... is the Safari snorkle.
Yeah didn't want to go the style side 'cause i know i'll just trash it. Didn't want to be too scared to through a load of sand in it etc.
I got stainless steel caps bent up to go over the tops of dropside and head board to stop the metallic paint from scratching when i slide 'stuff' into the tray.
Also got some Triple M extenders for the headboard put on.
Got timber floor boards put in 'cause my gear could slide around too much with a steel floor. Looks better anyway Got the boards double screwed 'cause with a single screw in the middle, the boards can bow up in the weather.
Also got inserts put in the rear of the tray for when i want to put in a rear ladder rack.

Am looking to pull out the standard stereo and replace it with my Sony head unit and a UHF radio. I see there is a few post going around about the UHF's so am picking up good ideas

It's a stainless battery tray from TJM. Comes with clamp & all nuts & bolts to install.
I used a Redarc Smart Solenoid it bolts to the side of the tray.
The biggest battery i could fit was a 105ah. Fedral battery was the best value for money.
ps The module has to be moved from the fire wall & relocated next to the solenoid on the battery tray, there are holes predrilled.

I've been following your posts and looking at your trucks. I have a new SR5 D4D Dual Cab, I'll attach a recent Pic. I am having problems with Tyres. A test in the Jan 4X4 Monthly put the Pirelli scopian AT's ahead for the best AT tyre and they actually used a Lux to test them all on. Has anyone else got these?
There are issues with Load rating and up here in Townsville, I have been sent away from Tyre shops when I ask them to put bigger tyres on for me, seems they are pretty strict about it.
I notice a few of you have 31 " BFG's, does this void insurance or anything?
Have you noticed larger tyres decrease your fuel economy?
Also is anyone else here from North QLD ? I'm new and looking for some good tracks / weekend trips.

It got all to hard for me and with info from people here and other persons was about to go for BG's , I ended up getting COOPER ATR's 265/70 R15 are leagal correct load rated and drive like a dream. The tyre dealer next to the car yard traded in my old tyres which made the purchase a lot smoother.

265/75R16's will fit but you have to remove some plastic and a bit of steel.
With the power of the d4d 32's would be a easily driven. and loose those
side steps while they are still straight .

About time another V6 owner showed up here, I'm going to get the suspension sorted out before I worry about tyres but have heard that 31's are a nice fit.
Do you know what your average L/100kms is according to the in dash computer, also do you find your accelerator unresponsive when you lift your foot off?

Yeah the 265/70/15 are apparently only 14MM bigger so therfore legal, but the guy that sells Coopers here reckons they are not load rated to 110....I was interested in the ST's, he said none of the coopers were legal because of the load rating. That was after someone else told me that the Pielli Scorpians were not legal due to the load rating.
I was thinking about 255/75/15 size, which is pretty much 1 inch bigger than the standard 255/70/15, which would take the tyres up to 31.1 inches if I am told correctly. I havn't bothered to calculate it yet. About 1 inch bigger would be good I reckon.

Why timber u ask? Well i listed 2 reasons already
Rubber is a good aternative for a styleside (don't want to scratch the baby) but mines a dropside and would rather have timber floor for the loads i carry... ie. loads of steel, sand, dirt etc.

Your Black Dual Can looks great it was one of my first choices After the Blue one but the dirt factor for work saw me choose the White.
The onboard dash Fuel computer tells me that i have never been over 13.7 L/100Klm's on a recent trip i saw it drop to 10.9 L/100Klm's and stayed there for the trip, this was on the higway. My Fuel dockets tell me on an average i can get just over 460Klm before i fill tank which i have never seen the yellow light come on and each time i fill it takes about 56 litres. So from that i never run it all the way down. Worst i have had around town was this last fill i had which was 62 Liters for 460 Klm. I know i upped it and had all short trips in the Suburbs.
I don't notice the accelerator unresponsive or have not taken much notice as yet , It takes a little getting used to when it changes down when you have braked going down a hill or simular, but is a bonus for towing the boat. I have the Auto and this matched to the V6 Petrol is a power house of a unit and i love it.

The Cooper 265/70 R15's are the correct load rating from what the dealer told me and better be or i will be giving him a fone call. Have a look at the Cooper site and the load rated to" 112S "
Richard the Canopy is a CarryBoy and it looks like they are made to be there and the paint finish is spot on. I am impressed with them. I looked at the others and they were cheaper but went for this one anyway.

Great fuel economy 9lt/100klms highway.That last trip to Cape Yorke.
Found out why the ABS and Parkers wern't working, Opposite Lock Newstead put the 146lt longrange fuel tank in to the Hilux, but i soon found out the fuel tank was touching the drive shaft at full articulation.
So thay O/Lock removed the tank and modified it, i lost about 1lt off the tank. But when thay put the tank back in thay had crushed the wireing harness between the mounts. Got to 180kms north of Cooktown on the Starcke track when started to play up.
I got Motorama to fix it and O/Lock to pay it.
Have you seen many Hiluxes up that way?

Yeah comalco have just changed there fleet over to them in the last few months I dont know how durable they are going to be I seen one the other day that most of the plastics were falling off after only a month. and have you noticed were the handbrake cable is routed on them what a stupid idea??

You have the same truck as me, I also have the Auto Diesel and the Alpha canopy from Blueys ute world. How do you find the canopy - the paint on mine was a bit rough around the windows but otherwise ok. The dust seal is not the best either.
Did you do the diff breather extension yourself?
I was thinking about making some drawers - still thinking about it.
I got about 20,000 Km on mine now, only problem I had was a rattle in the rear seat which toyota fixed, anyone else had any issues with their new hilux yet?

Our fuel economy is about the same, around town my trip computer reads 11.2 K/100 with 15500kms on the clock.
You having the auto you wont experience what I'm on about the unresponsive throttle, but your right about it being a power house, its like driving a V8, the auto makes more power on paper would love to test drive one one day to see the difference, as I have the manual.
The colour coding job on my canopy was a good job, I couldn't find any faults. I also get a fair bit of dust in the back, but I think that comes more from the gap at the tail gate rather than from the canopy seal. I do have a couple of small water leaks that I still have to get fixed.
I made my storage system out of qubelock(1in aluminium box section), and a combination of plywood and aluminium sheeting. The drawers run on top and bottom bearings. A storage system is by far the best accessory I have ever built or bought!!! It makes any camping trip so much easier!!!
Yes I did do the rear diff breather myself. I just got a fitting from the local hydraulic shop that screwed straight into the breather outlet and then ran clear plastic tubing to the engine bay. I then put the original breather fitting into the end of the tube. I didn't see the point in putting a fuel filter on the end like a lot of people seem to do. Feel free to tell me forumites why the filter is a better idea, I'm open to advice. The front diff breather is already extended to the engine bay. Now I just have to get around to doing the gearbox and transfer case.
I also seem to have a rattle from the rear seat left hand side area which I can't find, I'll hit Toyota up about it at the next service.

The factory breather cap has a seal inside it so that as the diff cools when it hits water and the air contracts the cap shuts to stop water entry.
The problem with this system is that it creates a vacuum in the diff and sometimes it can cause water to be sucked around the axle seals.
People put a fuel filter on to keep dust and crud out of the breather lines while putting very little restiction on air flow in and out of the diff.

Rattle from back seat must be common. Toyota replaced the whole thing when they couldn't fix it first time. Seems to be ok now.

No plans as such for the drawers, but when i get a chance i'll take some photos to give you some ideas. I consider the drawers to be permanent, it would be a good couple of hours to remove them. Both my dad and my father-in-law have tray back utes so i'm not too concerned about not being able to lug bigger stuff around.
If you look close at that septic site there some info on getting rid of the door open buzzer.
