U would still have a power issue for towing, and I don’t think it would be cheap to add another axle and a 5th hitch to a cruiser. I think u would be better off spending your money on something bigger and stronger.

I think we have to stop thinking what’s “legal” and start thinking what is “safe and practical”

Late 80's have a 3500kg tow rating, I don't see the need for a bloody turntable.

By some of the suggestions, I should be looking at a B Double to tow my trailer....

power issues aren't really a problem. it will still get up the hill it may just do it in1st but you still get there. the issue is not breaking the towball and being able to stop and turn the car without crashing. and you could prob find a cruiser alread converted to lazy axle crushu. but trailer 1.5t F150 2.5t or 2t i think you are over the rating.

VSB1 is for building trailers. You can print off the PDF from here. IIRC 2.4M is the max outside width allowed anywhere in Australia.

Will the F150 move enough to 'upset' the tow vehicle ? You'll need something substantial to tow it anyway.

I'd just use those webbing straps which cover the tyres and attach to the floor. This way you are only pulling down on the tyre.

The maximum width for all vehicles is 2.5mtrs. When you are measuring the width do not include external rear vision mirrors, signalling devices and tyre pressure monitors. ;)

Have a crack at building one, I just started this trailer for my buggy last week, with some help from a mate. ( Garth from Rustys Fab Works ).

We, started off to a blinda last Thursday, my Brobo Cold Saw's Blade was as blunt as a skunk, so off we went down to hare & forbes to get a new one, an hour & a half later we were into it... from about 4pm till 3am with a few bourbons & pizza throughout. We were well into it....

I worked a further 6 hours on it on Friday night & about another 4hrs on Saturday.....
Trailer will weigh no more than 480Kg ( I have weighed all components that are going into this on my digital warehouse scales ) & it is as strong as ever, the strength is exactly were it needs to be....
The inside edge of my buggies tyre sits firmly over the main rail....

It will be rated to 2.5T...... so thats a 2 ton truck capacity... If you need more then just spend a few extra hundred$$$$$ & get larger axles & heavier suspension..

Having trouple loading pic's, will do tomorrow...

i was looking as the offroad images website at TuffTruck pics and saw this lovely trailer setup.....i would like to know the tow capacity for the car pulling it looke like a subaru!!

sounds very similar to mine i have all my main chassis work done just waiting for the axels to turn up. I only went with the 1T axles but still should let me tow upto a 1550 kg car anything over that is to heavy anyways :finger:

mine is a flat deck with wheelarches that'll i drive over deck is 80 inch wide and like u when the car is parked on the trailer it is sitting straight over the main rails

The trailer I was planning would have had the rails right next the the tyres, with a cross member under where the tyres are. Heavy ones to suit my truck, and lighter ones to suit the Dragcar.

Crushu, ebay.. truck sections... an old acco or isuzu tautliner... seen them on there in vic for around the $3-$4k mark a few times... proabally a whole lot cheaper in the end than building a trailer

my self im getting a later model isuzu... ive got a car trailer its an ex plant /bobcat trailer.. its just to heavy when you put anything decent on it.. towing with hzj75 so going the truck route.. id rather sit at 100k's than at 80 with the thing swaying around with drafts from semi's that go past

any trucks i find will have to be dual cabs, as i want to be able to fit everyone in the one car.

Trailer, Don't build the entire thing from solid material, a simple steel frame and base and then sides and roof out of a heavy duity canvas or nylon. much cheaper, lighter and better looking.

after having a big ass trailer to tow my shit around on and having it parked up all the time from little use a small truck for me is where i will head to next time around the same money as what you will spend on a trailer and the only added hassle is the height to load and unload some of my friends with show cars have small trucks and they have got em working during the week with a driver earing money doing courer work nice side income

I may persue this avenue I think. Any idea what you would rent the truck out for during the week?

transport companies up this way work on between $60-$70 dollars per hour.

Its all mates deals friend drives they take running costs of the top then split the money that it earns i no one truck is working for a courier and the other delivers gas bottles not big money but still investment i hated having a big ass trailer sitting doing nothing and it allways seemed that i had to go and get it wasnt where i needed it
