Work out your diff ratio with the fist part vin number and the tag on body which has axle code. Go here and you will find.

Dad owns a 01 lux with the 1kzte motor and his ratios where from memory 3.97 or some wired like that he broke the front diff.

so i put in a set of 4.1 with air lockers and a set of 35's his happy now :lol: :lol:

5L = 4.5
1KZ= 3.7
5VZ-FE (V6)= 4.1

yeah had to get a gear the other day for T/belt couldn't get one aftermarket $92 :shock: just a thought. mark tailshaft and wheel turn wheel one turn exactly and count turns of shaft and roughly gues the .3/.5/.8/.9 shouldn't be to hard this is the way i've been told buy a scrutiner that does the V8's when at qld raceway if it's out a bit they know to get them to pull it out.

i'm sure I could work it out from the vin placard...

just means I actually have to go out to the cold garage.. lift the bonnet.. and read :lol: :lol:

Well according to this:

it should be 4.3 but I'm not confirming it. Placard code will reveal all.

thanks.....

took a look at placard code and it does not make any sense i.e. does not match up with the code on that other link...

if anyone can decode it... W56 A05B ...

W56 is the gearbox code.

A05B is the diff code which means its a 3.7, not sure about the B, could that have been a misread "3"? That would make it a 2 pinion LSD.

Jack up on wheel and rotate it untill the tailshaft does two full revolutions, the number of rotations your wheel did is your ratio. I pretty sure this works.

If your rear is a LSD, then do this to one of your front wheels.

I was under the impression that 2.7L petrol Hilux's were 4.3, I know someone with one thats 4.3 anyway (99 model I think).

My 94 2.8 diesel diff code is G285, this means an 8" 4.3 with 4 pinion lsd. Is the front diff also going to be a 4 pinion? I am thinking of putting in an auto locker in the front and need to sort it so I can order the right one.

Thanks

hey all, i couldn't work out crap from that ratio website. i got model number and stuff (including trans/axle code) but yeah, i couldn't figure it out. i've got an old '85 runner with a 3Y engine.
Trans/Axle code: G52 G142
been told they are 4.8's and that's what i read in the workshop manual, just checking. also would that be adequate for 33's, or is it a matter of "drive it and see" kinda thing??

yep you have 4.88 gears according to that code.
