Ok i know there is a lot of UHF posts in the past but i can't find the info i want..

Basically i have been looking for a UHF and it has come down to 2.. either the GME TX4400 or the UNIDEN UH095sx can anyone who has either give me the basic pros and cons before i go out and buy 1 or the other. ATM going blind i am swaying towards the UNIDEN.

Much appreciated :)

I've got the GME tx4400 and its a very good UHF. A little big but that depends where you want to mount it. I reckon the front fire speaker is the way to go as its easy to hear even with windows down and tyres roaring plus it has so many fine tuning adjustments to get the sound clarity right without the general interference noise which is great. Don't know what the uniden is offering but I can't see how anyone would be disappointed with the GME. I got it a few weeks ago on sale at WOW sight and sound for $374. Pays to shop around.

I've currently got a TX4400 and they are great. same size as the uniden. I have mine running through the GME 4700 series interchangable antenna and it works a treat.

That said, one I get a roof console and can fir a 2nd radio I will probably get one of those unidens as the UH095sx does both UHF and AM

I've got a 4400 and it works well. Ideal for Patrol's and other vehicles if you have a spare DIN space. GQ's came out std with this massive dbl-decker radio. After removing this and inserting cd player it leaves perfect space for cb

I didn't buy a uniden UHO95sx because 1) too dear 2) need two aerials 3) can only use UHF or AM, not both 4) no-one uses AM anymore 4) and you need to mount remote speaker(s).

If you want AM, you're better off with two cb's so you can scan UHF for traffic, etc. while you chat b/w vehicles on AM. The similar Uniden without the AM would be better and cheaper than UH095sx.

Another benefit of the GME is dials for Volume, channels and squelch as opposed to little press buttons. When your crashing through the bush or rocking about on uneven ground you can turn a dial easier on the move than fumble around for the right button to press.

Really appreciate the help guys i never knew you needed 2 aerials for the uniden (makes sense now but) and i think the remote speaker is an option as it already has a forward firing speaker but i may be wrong.

Anyone got one of the unidens? I have got nothing but great feedback about the tx4400 maybe the tx is the way to go :)

GME = Aussie made :armsup:

Uniden isn't

I have the 4400 din mounted & love it, my brother had a Uniden Sundowner with the same aerial as i do & i could receive clearer than his sitting side by side.

(4400 has the remote speaker option)

i had a 4400 , then went to comercial radio's. The next family car i buy i will be putting a 4400 back in due to it being easy to operate and the front speaker is a very nice touch.

Also the 20 scan channels a nice feature. Its just an all round user friendly unit. we also managed to wind my old one up to 7 watts

Cheers

I used to work in car radio repair and I can tell you at least back then that Uniden made a crap product. I personally had a GME TX4400 in my last 4wd and now have a TX3200 that came in my current 4wd. I was going to try the Icom 400pro this time but since my 4wd came with a TX3200 I'll probably just stick with that.
We have also got three TX3200s and one old TX4200 at work and they have never given any trouble.
