LSD in Sierra

Post by JayCee83 »

I have searched and just have a few more questions.

Firstly please correct me if any information i have got is wrong

Is the rear diff in a 91 sierra 3.7 ratio
I have been told that a 2000 Jimny lsd will bolt straight in (3.9 ratio) - is this true and are they the same spine?

Also does the 1lt sierra front diffs have 3.9 ratio, if so will the whole diff centre bolt up to the front diff housing in a 1.3lt sierra? If they do, are the splines the same or do you have to change the side gears?

Any information would be great :D

Don't know about your Jimny rear LSD but a NT 1.3L centre is what your after for the front to match a 3.9 ratio. It's a 4 pin carrier too I believe not a 2 like the WT. The 1L diffs are a 4.1 ratio.

The pins refer to the number of roll pins fitted to the carrier. A four pin looks like a lsd due to its enclosed hemisphere, where as a 2 pin is more open (like a hilux if you have seen one of these). In regards to the LSD, why not get a locker. LSD's are pretty rubbish really offroad without tightening up, and they will wear out.

Thanks for that. I already have a locker but in the comp that I enter I am not allowed to use it (dont want to go to the other class). However, I am allowed to use an LSD and it will be shimmed up (to the comp specifications of course) :D

I am in the process of finding out if the gears in the locker can be changed to match a 3.9 ratio, if so I will be putting the locker in the front and I wont have to worry about the NT diff but I am just finding out my options at the moment.

So just to clarify the NT 1.3lt diff will bolt straight into the front without a problem?

Thanks for the help

in OZ, you'll be lucky if you can find a 3.9 jimny diff.

even though the specs say that the auto jimny has a 3.9. all of the auto diffs that i've found have a ratio of 4.090 (same as the manuals).

the current diffs in my jimny are 4.090 and they are out of an auto.

Just realised that I dont need to change the gears as I will be using the gears out of the 1.3 NT diff

Does anyone know if the lockers for the 1.3 WT rear diff will fit into a 1.3 NT front diff????

I have spoken to nearly every major suzuki workshop/wreckers and everyone is saying that no jimny ever came out with an lsd :x I know that the Japan version did but there is no way to get me hands on one of them - people only import the motors and performance parts.

I know for a fact that someone had a Jimny lsd in their sierra but I dont know which model jimny he got that from. Can anyone shed some light on this situation :?:

You can buy a LSD from Calmini.
The front diffs have smaller axles. So the side gears have to be changed or big after market axle kit fitted to fit a rear in the front.

Lots of good info there.

Thanks zute. I looked at these a while ago but I was trying to get away from that cost but by the looks of things the price difference compared with the hassel isn't worth it

Are these limos made for the rear - that where i want to put it?

Yep, they buy them from the factory. you have to change the front axles to fit them up front.
What comps do you do and what class do you run. Would like to do some myself.

I currently compete in Tough Tracks Trophy class. It is an unlocked class with max 33" tyres.

This is why I would like a limo as you are allowed them in this class only if they come out standard for that make of car (import or not). I currently have a locker in the rear but obviously cant use it in this comp so I want to put a limo in the rear and the locker in the front.

If you want to start doing comps it is a good one to try, next round is the 26/27 May at Landcruiser. Here is the link if you are interested

Are u allowed to weld the diff? as the internal bits are original + adding weld.

Also reading the regs - what front recovery point do you have?

Sorry Nicbeer - no locked diffs of any kind

My tow point on the front is just a standard tow hook that is welded to the top of the chassie. Are you looking at entering?
