Front shocks L300

Just a quick simple question for your collective knowledge...

My boss has one of these L300 ex-Telstra vans, and the front shocks are hooped... To replace the shocks, is it as simple as unloading the front end, unbolting them as they won't be under load, and bolting up new ones?? I would assume so, but rather than look like a d1ck in front of the boss, thought I'd ask.

The other thing I noticed, the shock shaft has about 15-20mm travel (at most) showing at rest.... How much should there be?? I would 'assume' that there is more stroke than that, but perhaps that torsion bars need a tickle up?? Has anyone seen a how-to on that??

Also, I need to source some shocks today in inner east melbourne. Any suggestions where to look? They don't need to be much chop, I'm sure the worst this thing will see is a dusty car park, but contains builders gear (heavy). Suggestions??

Thanks for any/all help you can offer.
