Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Just wondering what people have done in the past to extend their bonnets.

I've got a Series Landy with a V8 transplant that requires the facia to be moved forward. If I move the bonnet with it, it will leave a gap at the firewall. Have people extended the bonnet or is it better to manufacture a "bridge" to match and then mount the bonnet to that? My plan is to keep the original style facia.

The easiest and neatest way IMO is simply to cut and extend the hinges, and also the rear of the bonnet.

Thats probably not a bad way of doing it. I wonder how hard it would be to extend the bonnet and then resheet over the whole thing, or how exy it would be to have it done.

Get it finished alright! I started this one over Xmas as the hindsight 4by (The blue one has been scrapped). All of the things that I would have done differently on the previous one have been corrected on this one.

Could you use a defender bonnet or a stage 1 v8 bonnet or do you want to keep the series look

I'm trying to keep that series look, though I think I've got a stage1 bonnet around here somewhere. IIRC its got a different shaped front part, but I might pull that out also and see how well I can make it suit the IIa facia, even if the facia needs to be trimmed over the top.

The reason behind keeping it IIa style, is that it'll be running 37's and the tyres may contact the back of the headlights if they're in the guards.

Have seen a series bonnet extended at the front and it looked ok with front apron moved foward to the front of the guards I dontr think it would be hard to do a extension on the frame and then re sheet it with alloy and rivet it back on or just extend wat u have

Put the Stage 1 bonnet on.

I have 2a guards on mine stage 1 without cutting anything out of the tip sections and they work fine.

A mate of mine just riveted sheet meal and added braces to the back of his bonnet and with a but of handy work with some bog it looks ok. Its hard to see unless you look really hard or notice that he front grill is closer than normal.

Gday Dave, I have a stage 1 bonnet here somewhere. I was looking at a Stage 1 pic and I think that this is the way I'll probably go. It keeps the unnecessary fab work to a minimum, though will push the IIa facia right to the front of the bodywork - It'll be an interesting look, but I'll try to get it together this weekend to see how it goes, even if the top of the IIa facia needs to be trimmed. I guess the advantage is that it also gives a bit more room under the bonnet also for other bits like PAS radiators etc.

I cant help but wonder if I should have started with a Stage 1
