another Straight gas question

sorry, been searchin for the last hour... found lots but still a lil unsure of the best way to go

the long and short of it is I'm going straight gas on my 4.7ltr p76 powered rangie.

from what I've read the best way to go about this is by using.....

- a impco 225 mixer and matching convertor (which is??)
- making and adaptor plate and bend to bolt onto where my carb is siting currently.
- sourcing a throttle body from somewhere, kingy mentioned a diesel TB is best? any other sugestions?
- whats best location to plumb in rocker cover breathers?
- anything blatantly obvious that I've missed?
- is it really that simple?

Cheers

Simon

yeah all that - but if you can get an EFI manifold to fit as well......

Maybe just buy a 300a mixer and mount on top of carb. Saves buying some form of throttle body as I assume you have the old carb. There should be an adaptor to suit your carb with 300a on it. You can also get a large old style air cleaner to go over the whole thing. 300a will work fine too.

I have a 300a mixer with complete metal hosuing to go over the top and has a filter inside that for sale due to turbo conversion.

If ur interested pm me

Mines a plastic one and it looks like all the round air cleaners used to on carbs. But it's not the best sealing, yet.

yeah i had the same prob were the metal/plastic part covers the top of the converter what i did was got some gasket paper and made a gasket then put a thin layer of grease on the paper and worked a treat!

I gotta get rid of the carb for engineering reasons

from what I've read the 225 is an in-line mixer and basically spot on for a 5ltr.

anyone else got anything more for me?

I've got one there, I just dont like wires... I dont think the factory computer would be up to the task either  rover centre in skye? has the adaptors to fit the 3.9 manifold to the 4.4

What wires, what computer? you're going straight gas - use the efi manifold for the tuned length runners / plenum and throttle body. Should flow heaps better than a carb setup. What sort of $ are the adapters worth?

ahhh. I mis-read as go EFI. no idea on $$ value of the spacer pieces. might have to find out tomorrow, cheer's for clearing that up.. it'll probably work a lil nicer than the elbow with a TB bolted to it.

edit: wouldnt it hinder flow as there is more restriction ie. more for the air to crash into? or would it distrubute the air more evenly into each cylinder in turn giving me a smoother power curve?

too much to thinking for a hot hungover sunday arvo :?

you dont have to get rid of the carb. All you need to get rid of is the petrol tank.

sorry jess... entire fuel system :? carb, pumps, lines, solenoids, everything

who said you have to remove the entire fuel system?
the carby is there for the throttle plate, they cannot make you remove it.
tank remove it, as for fuel lines, just block them off. you dont have to remove anything else.

Actually, you dont even have to remove the fuel tank, you just fill it with water, bypass the carby and run a hose to thr front of the vehicle with a garden hose adapter. you then proceed to get a sticker made for ontop of the fuel lid WATER ONLY.

you need to change engineers or certifiers.

you are indeed much better off with a injection manifold. the 3.9 manifold would work nicely. Give you gobs more torque than the carby manifold aswell. single throttle butterfly works very well with LPG also.

as for the fuel system, throw the rover injection system and comp in the bin...... :D

thats exactly what I wanted to hear thanks jes! makes my life sorting out the auto kickdown cable easier as well

ballarat swap meet this weekend, hopefully dont find any other roads to go down and confuse me :?
