What is the difference between the R151 and the R151F?
Which models does the R151F come from?

I can recall reading some info about 87 Turbo Pickups in the USA that had an R15xF with a gear driven transfer attached. Is that the R151F?

Yes, US 1986/87 22RE Turbo 4Runners. I imported a complete trans, and gear tansfer

R150 - 3.83 - V6 4Runner, Some Surfs
R151 - 4.31 - Surfs, Turbo diesel Prado's, Late troopies
R154 - 3.25 - TTSupra's
R452 - 5.15 - Dyna truck
G52 -- 3.96 - Current Gearbox

any idea on what a good reco R151 would go for? the G52 in my lux is on its way out i fear. and would the 4.31 be noticably lower than the current 3.96?

Ive got a mainshaft out of my old mans R151 that states that its not a strong gearbox- its eaten off all the splines!

My Hiluz is a 2004 1kz-te and it comes with a R151F with chain driven transfer.

Yes all chain transfers. The only hybrid R series with a gear transfer was the US 86/87 4Runner as mentioned above.

What are you plans etc.

ANother option is bundera/ landcruiser 60s transfer, they bolt up to the back of r151 from turbo bundera (extension housing on box different to surf/ hilux).
But with the offset rear output you might want to change to cruiser diff.

Still doesn't make sense as if you have a 93 diesel Hilux you probably have a G52 with a chain transfer. If you want to use the gear transfer it can be bolted up using an earlier Hilux intermmediate housing.

Unless you are wanting to go to an R series but again why.

The gear transfer would be better if you're into extreme 4wd etc in that it gives you the addtional option of fitting lower low range crawler gears sets etc.

If you only do basic stuff why bother .

G52 with gear drive transfer case is 21 spline
G52 with chain drive transfer case is 26 spline
You have to change the main output shaft also if you want to swap

Someone told me 93 Diesel was G52 with gear transfer. They must have been mistaken.

Ok so If I have a G52 and a chain transfer already and I find an R151F will that bolt up or should I be trying to find a R151F with transfer inc?

Which gearbox is behind a 1992 HZJ75 there is one in the paper

LN106R, 93 - 2.8D DualCab If this is a true discription of your vehicle you should have a G52 gearbox with a geardrive transfer case
Check the Toyota manifactures plate on the fire wall 5th line down should read G52 / G285 G52 gearbox G285 4.3 LSD

Might be dumb here, have been before, but I thought the chain driven transfer only applied to vehicles with ADD.

These boxes are behind the current 78/79 1hz aswell as 100 series 1hz and the old shorty pzj70....do prados run them too???
