MQ gearbox getting hot.

hey guys

have got a mq with a turbo l28. its also sprung over. the thing i have noticed is that the gearbox gets really hot. you dont even have to drive very far and its getting warm. it has new oil.

any one got ideas?? or do they run fairly hot??

rear diff centre gets hot to??

There will always be heat involved, but how hot is hot.??

well a 1 hour drive on the freeway and its basically untouchable. can touch it but cannot hold your hand against either for any time.

the rear diff centre has had all new bearings to. more pinion related heat though in the diff.

What oil did you use?

castrol vmx 80 oil the one that was written for the box in the castrol book.

The oil is fine. you can use that or 80/90 oil for the mq boxes....
every one ive owned has gotton hot to the point you cant hold your hand on it after driving.... its common.
Dont be concerned about it.

id rather not touch most moving parts of an engine after a drive.

if it needs a coolant of any sort, be it water, oil or otherwise, it should not be touched after driving in my books :P but thats just me being a big girls blouse :D lol
