did find some but it looks to have a 4 bolt flange where it bolts to the manifold.

the gu has a 3 bolt flange.

The 3L Garret is a larger turbo than the 2.8L and kicks in at higher revs as the 3L revs out alot higher than the 2.8L

the 3l turbo also has computor controled wastegate etc. as far as i kno the 2.8's are normal wastegates

well i pulled it off today.

the shaft had split into 2. lost some of the turbine compressor wheel,it made it into the intercooler but not out of it. stuffed the cooler though.

it has chewed both the front and rear (not too much on this side) housing out
due to the wheels moving in and out and sideways around 5mm.

so its time to upgrade.. t28 time and new cooler.

I have an RD28T engine in my modified GQ, and bought a new turbo last year, GT2871R, .86AR. Have 12mm plunger in the pump and you need to be able to spin the turbo, very good power from it though, have a big fmic, plenum chamber, 3" dump/zorst, LPG, etc............. around 250hp.

You should go for a ball bearing type rather than bushes, (T28)
or you get too much lag. The R in GT2871R means it`s a bb turbo. Maybe the disco potato is the right sisze for you.

i did see yours in a search..
could i possibly get some more info please.. already had your turbo size..
cant see a way to mount a cooler in the front of the gu due to getting room for the pipes to go through the rad support panel. the rad is huge in these, plus all the ac lines and crap.
mate how did you mount your turbo.. looks like i have to make a adaptor from the 3 bolt flange on the exhaust to a 4 bolt on the turbo..
do you have pics of the plenium chamber?

what is this disco potato, i did see it mentioned in one of the turbos i was looking at on e-bay.

what is the 12mm plunger?

mate totally understand if you dont want to let out your secrets..

thanks mark.

that gq is awsome bud.

so can anyone actually tell me whet a "disco potato" is...

i noticed a mentioning of it under the same circumstances in the toyota section too.

i need to buy a turbo today as i cant afford to have this gu off the road.

thanks mark.

well due to not having enough time to mod the gu and not being able to afford having it off the road i purchased a brand spanker gt17 (t25) pissy little std gu turbo from dyanamic turbochargers for the sum of $1590.

it gets there tomorrow..

ever had that feeling that you could have really upgraded for the price..
thats where i am now.

also noticed the fan under the intercooler was not working. it had melted and seized and broke the magnat inside.
so got a new a/m fan.

will let yas know the difference this makes.

i do bud but you should really read your reply in your other thread.

mate my old turbo broke the shaft into 2 and wore the bushes away totally, the exhaust wheel is bent, the inlet wheel is stuffed, the front housing is worn where the wheel was grinding along it.

thanks mark.
