Guys im travelling from WA back to NSW on sunday.
Yesty arvo changing the belts and hoses as a precaution.
put it all back together and water is pissing out of the front. (hard to see but suspect water pump).
anyways, when changing waterpump is it worth doing the thermostat or viscous coupling??
it was all goign sweet until we changed the hoses and belts.
do you think it was over tensioning the belts or just bad luck???
yeah i would believe your story on paying someone to sabotage my 80, if i didnt hear that you are so badly needing $$ to finish your vit that you were spotted on the corner in islington in fishnets.
Im on the case now, can have one to mandurah today so that is good news.
i just hope the viscous coupling is ok, fawked if i know a good one from a dud hehhehe. i guess we will tonight when it is in pieces.
Get ready to pull the timing belt off, the pump is in behind all of that...definately change it out b4 going long trip....dont ask how i know.
Also, if your belt is old......change that instead of the thermo...they dont usually stuff up unless the temp gets up....your call, cheap insurance i suppose, the viscous dodah is $170 on ebay for new, but sometimes new can be worse than old...thats why i wouldnt touch anything that was ok b4 a long trip
Andrew
dow50r,
yeah i was planning on takin the radiator out to get at the water pump.
i replaced the 3 belts yesterday. and 2 hoses on radiator.
so if i now do water pump and thermostat im hoping i will be good to go....
anyother tips or hints?
could over tightening the belts have killed my water pump??
I've done a water pump change on a 80 series 1hz. I didnt take out the rad, but the fan was a bloody tight fit to get out. Have to remove the timing belt, camshaft pully and back timing belt cover to allow access to all the water pump bolts
Cheers for the help guys.
yeah it was a mission!!
my thanks for out to... daysy, dewse and shane.
got it sorted yesty. 8 hrs it took. had to hunt for parts.
the tensioner pulley and timing belt got replaced, thermostat, hoses, belts, water pump.
if i break down on my way east now i will be very pi$$ed!!
kamo come on down this arvo for dirnks mate.
im leaving sunday morning.
