Just wondering what you use to seal extractors to V8 alloy heads?

Have heard just regular silicone is an option, has anyone done this, or are the specific compounds worth buying??

It is a good idea to use both, this is what we used in track motorsport, you are pretty much garuanteed it will never leak.

I used always use High temp silicon on my gaskets and it is ok by itself.

Make sure you get Hi temperature silicon though from an auto store, it comes in little tubes. And if you have an oxygen sensor in your exhaust sytem make sure it is oxygen sensor safe.

I've used just Copper Silastic on all the joins in my extractors, including to the side of the head. Doesn't leak at all. If you use the gaskets, use Copper Silastic on them as well. It does say it's not really supposed to be used on exhausts, but by god it works well, I've used it many times.

i am yet to even see a rover exaust manifold gasket i have tryed to chase them down only to be told to use ultra blue

there are various rover exhaust manifold gaskets - you can get for earlier cars composite ones to join to the head, which are a single for each port (ie. you need 8 in total), or for later ones two-port in either composite or tin. There is also a gasket for the flanges where it joins to the Y-pipes, on injected cars. That said, you don't really need to use them (although i prefer to use both gasket and silicone on the flanges).
