just looking under bonnet come across a 3 to 4 mm vacuum hose coming from the two black vacuum bottles to an electrical switch above the windscreen wiper motor then it goes down the fire wall to nothing. does anyone know what its for or where does the loose end go to? 4.2 td gu 1999

Sounds to me like it could be the ramp up for your air con.....most likely hooked to a small gizmo sumwhere on ya throttle.
Hope this helps.

so the best way to check this would be to turn air on and see if there is power to the switch, and if so look on some throttle parts for the fitting. what happens when a diesel sucks open vacuum as far as fuel economy goes?

if i am correct, i believe it goes somewhere on the injector pump, as when vacume is supplied it will move move the throttle linkage or something like that

Check on the side of the injecter pump there will be a white plastic diaphram the hoes tail is on the back side of it but you can only see it from the back as it is resessed it is the idle up for the a/c if I'm correct

goes on injector pump to up idle when a/c is on according to the book. i plugged mine up as it was leaking thru the switch and loosing vacuum at low revs
