Just a quick question,

What's the difference between steering damper and a Return To Center?

what's the Pro and Con between them?

RTC helps return the steering wheel to centre.

Pros and cons don't know as I have to busy working on the zook to fit the one to the GQ I bought.

The rtc's are good if you have large tyres on offset rims to help centre the steering, not need on stock size wheels/tyres.

I've got a small one and a large one (with hardly any use) sitting in the garage as I now run a regular heavy duty steering damper. The correct caster returns your wheels to centre and a normal damper does a much better job at stopping any bumpsteer or steering shimmy, that's why you will never see a RTC damper on a truck. If you do want one, give me a PM and I'll sell you one real cheap as I will never use one on anything ever again.

I thought the RTC dampers were the ducks guts, but sadly have been proved wrong on 3 out of 4 occasions and to this end i am going a Dobinsons steering damper on my comp GQ.

I have one on my FJ62 5.7l and one on the missus SPOA Zook both of which have blown the seal and leaked oil everywhere and are cactus, they were only 4 months old!

Admittedly we did do a sprint comp in both rigs and that is when they blew, my mate has one in his 80 comp rig and that has worn the outside of the damper that much with the spring that it is weeping oil as well but his is about 6 months older than ours.

This is only my personal experience with them, and i am not a real fan anymore so thats why im going the 41mm jobbie from Marty at Dobinsons in Sydney, from what ive been told the bigger the shock the longer it takes to heat up, and if it heats to much then POP go the seals.

I think the RTC ones sacrafice the size of the damper so they can fit the spring on and still have room for everything to clear and that is were the problem is.

My truck was knocked back at rego time cause it did'nt self centre very well, I was told not to put a RTC damper on as it will only mask the problem, So I got old man emu 2 degree caster shims and all was sweet

I have a RTC on my Zook and I think the only value of it is it looks very BLING.
