G day all

I'm having issues with front with the front diff pinion hitting the starter motor (305 Chev) on full travel up.

I've been on the phone to a guy from marks 4wd adapters and cutting a long story short. A injected holden (304) will bolt in with new engine mounts and he thinks, starter motor on passenger side which will eliminate the problem.

anyone know for sure which side a 304 holden starter bolts on

cheers steve

yeah but the motor is a little tired as well along with carbie issues. 304 is a all in one solution with lots more power

another question
what has to be done to get a vs - vt 304 to run with a patrol manual box

man i would be kitting up the 305. you can get cheap bolt on TBI setups now out of corvettes. :D

however if you already have the adapter kit, the 304 is turbo pattern so it would bolt up to where the chev was. all you would need to get is the holden flywheel redrilled to accept your chev pressure plate, or just use the current clutch plate and hope it fits inside the holden pressure plate.

Holden starters are on the passenger side.
Marks adaptor housings have castings on both sides for holden and chev starter motors.
Not sure on dellow ones but.......

Mate, is this my old rig? If so pm me and i'll give ou the good oil. 88 black swb, 305 chev custom rear bar? sounds very familiar. Probably should update sig line.

Space the front bumpstops. 20mm should be enough to stop the problem.

Yeah. It did have 20mm bump stop extentions but i took em out before selling it and put them in my wifes gq. That will fix the problem. I tried the reduction type starter, but it would still hit. Its chewed a nice groove in the bellhousing extention, hay ;)

i gave it a real good hit (way to fast down a rough track) and now i think i've bent the starter housing bolts. while starting it skips teeth and sometimes misses all together. i'll keep drivin her till she stops. the motor has tapet cover back pressue and needs a fair bit of work. Money i'd rather spend on putting a good donk in.
