Replaceing Pinion bearing and seal...? Help needed

Im wondering on the WT model Sierra is it a Home job to replace the bearing and seal at the front of the diff where the drive shaft bolts up I believe its called the Pinion seal...? (Im not sure if it is)
Has anyone done this before or is it a Diff shop job with a press needed...?

Seal is a home job for sure. But bearing is a bit more involved, and you will need to be confident with setting up a diff as far as backlash etc is concerened as you will need to remove the hemishpere etc to remove the pinion shaft to access the 2 pinion bearings.

There is oil coming out of this area is it generally just the seal that is gone or would the bearings have gone as well in most cases..?

Yes there is a bit of a whine and have just done wheel bearings on the back as well as new oil.
Pinion slop could this account for the drive shaft getting vibrations after letting off of the accerater in 5th and 4th...?

If the pinion has any movement in it at ALL except rotational, the pinion bearing is most likely farked the flange should not be able to move up, down, Left or right - if it can the bearings are stuffed. If the pinion moves in and out of the housing then the crush tube is buggered.
The whine - Is it all the time (most likley bearings) or under accelleration only or under decelleration only if either of these last couple are true it may need re-setting the backlash and depth up or the case hardening on the teeth has worn through.
Ive seen the mud you guys play in - have you had any in your diff ?

Ive had plenty a times of getting water in the diff but it has been changed straight after with in a day and no driving until its done. I dont believe I have mud or dirt in there but obviously the water would have been dirty so yes it most likely could have got in there.
I have checked for movement and nothing at this stage so I will pull the drive shaft of and see if it moves at all. The whines seems to come on after a certain speed or goes away around some corners.
